The younger Jones was a highly recruited prospect out of high school.

Was expected by some to start at Arkansas next year. What's going on there? Do they have any guards left?

I’ve already seen UA fans hint that maybe Penny Hardaway was recruiting them to Memphis.

Wouldn't that be a probation-worthy offense if they just got their release today?

I don’t see Penny bringing in too many guys to redshirt in a league like theirs, though.

RE: Another Birminghomer transferring
Speaking of Hardaway, they released details of his contract today. In today's college basketball environment, Uof Memphis is getting a sweet deal. They were paying Tubby 3.2 million a year. Penny is working for 1.6 million a year for only a three year contract. So with what they are paying Tubby still (1.6 mil) and what they pay Penny, they are breaking even on getting rid of Tubby.
Plus, his incentives are all attendance based, rather than win based. If attendance averages 12,000, he gets 35K. If they bring in 5 million in season ticket sales, he gets 300K. Based on the excitement around here, those incentives will easily be met. Plus if that average is met, Memphis gets an additional 800K from the Grizzlies. It's all money flowing in to the school and very little flowing out to the coach. A rarity today in college athletics. Penny is loaded, so he is basically giving back to his school.
The word also is he is going to hire former NBA player Mike Miler as an assistant. Miller supposedly is tied to three highly ranked recruits somehow. With Penny's connections and Millers, the Tigers may be back in a big way.

Word is Penny is looking at Mike Miller to be assistant #1. If Penny and Miller can coach just a little, and the talent follows their High School and AAU coaches, then Memphis is going to be loaded.
A team could do very well picking up the guys that will want to play for Memphis but they cannot sign.

This hire was a win all around for Memphis. If he falls on his face, they can get out easy. I have a hard time seeing that. He also probably agreed to the three year deal knowing that if he is successful in year one or two he has a lot of leverage in the next negotiation. Memphis is relevant nationally for the first time in a while because of this hire. The sky is the limit, more of the same is the floor in my opinion. If he gets the right pieces around him, Memphis could be the Memphis of old quite quickly. None of us know how good he is as a coach, but he will have a lot of talent without a doubt.

See there’s some dirty sh!t going on up there. Played on Penny’s aau team. Shouldn’t be allowed to step in and say those kids played for me back in the day, let’s see if we can get them to transfer.
@GoTigers247
According to a source, Arkansas transfer Darious Hall @bigdayday4 has received his release after announcing his intentions to transfer yesterday. Memphis will certainly be involved.

And one of those scholarships is going to his son who by all accounts is no where near a D1 level player.
Penny can legally pay his son's way out of his own pocket, and let him walk on, IIRC.

Tubby Smith, Mike Anderson, Mike Davis, all with kids who played.
Most all of them would not have played at that level without dad.
Tubby's kid might have been the exception.
