Looks like region 18 which would give Snow another football team. Arizona schools must have rejected Community Christian College out of California since they are listed in region 18.

Even though credits from TRACS accredited schools are widely accepted now, PNWCC has an impressive list of schools with whom they have solid transfer agreements in place.

Yes, they have some of the area private schools like Northwest Nazarene, Corban, and Northwestern University, they also have state schools like Eastern Oregon, Lewis and Clark State, and Eastern Washington. Seems like the publics are typically slower to formalize transfer agreements with newer, smaller Christian colleges and take it on a case by case basis.

Also being in the Tri Cities is huge plus for this college. Easy to get to, nice climate, a fast growing area, easy and direct flights from anywhere in the West for students or athletic purposes. Nice city for a private Christian college.

Also, I’ve never found a definite answer on NJCAA requirements. They have accepted several members with non regional accreditation such as TRACS. I’m not sure if it’s on a case by case basis or automatic for them.

Yes, there are a lot of private schools listed. Arkansas Baptist was one of the several 4 year schools privates that are in NJCAA. I am going to see some more schools like Bismarck State to join NAIA soon. Now, NJCAA have a team in California and one in Washington.

I thought Arkansas Baptist moved to NAIA in 2020.

They are still listed as an NJCAA member on that site.

Looking at the NJCAA site now and Arkansas Baptist is nowhere to be found, including a search of members.

Another good DavidSt find! I didn’t know Dakota State was looking at D2 also.

I wonder what the unnamed conference Bellevue applied to was. I’m sure the GPAC has always been a firm no. Would it have been another, like the HAAC?

Overall, this is really sad news for the Upper Plains. Jamestown left for the GPAC and filled the GPAC schedule up for another week, not to mention Mount Marty (I believe) adding football which will seal it up further and likely have no out of conference games, Trinity Bible shut down football, which several members used to fill their schedule, Presentation is closing, Dakota State looking at D2.

It wasn’t long ago that South Dakota and North Dakota each had an NAIA conference of mostly in state schools. Now, they are out of schools between the 2 states.

Besides what I listed above, Huron U closed, Sioux Falls, SD Mines, Black Hills, U Mary have gone D2, and of course some of the former South Dakota intercollegiate conference have gone to the GPAC.

I think the NAIA switch from Districts to Conferences for nationals bids have driven at least some of the the change that has killed off certain regions.

Like the NCAA, a school must have regional accreditation. As DavidST said, that’s SACS for this school.

Yes, as I said above Arkansas Baptist joined the NAIA in 2021. They are no longer a NJCAA member and not listed as such on the NJCAA site.

That's cool. Reason I was asking is that I have been wanting to see Pensacola Christian College in the NAIA, but they don't have SACS accreditation, and don't want it. They are located in Florida and only have TRACS accreditation. So, no NAIA for them, I suppose.

Until the last few years, I would have said that PCC will probably not be seeking regional accreditation anytime soon.

However, I was quite certain the same stood true for Bob Jones, and all of a sudden they are regionally accredited and in the NCAA.

I was absolutely shocked at that change at BJU, so I wouldn’t rule anything out. Pensacola Christian has an amazing gym for a school competing in low level athletics. Better than a fair number of D1 facilities I can think of.

https://static.pcci.edu/pcc/CampusVirtualTour/#node18

Incidentally, PCC used to have more sports and compete a little harder. They used to have a heck of a wrestling program.

Looks like some musical chairs in D2. Interesting.

The GSC press release:

Gulf South Conference Adds Two Football Affiliate Members

The Gulf South Conference partners with Chowan University and Erskine College as affiliate members for football. The forward-thinking collaboration led by the GSC provides a football home for both institutions in advance of plans by Conference Carolinas to sponsor football in 2025.
...
Both institutions will receive full access to conference championship and awards during their respective tenures, with affiliation to end following the 2024 season. In addition to becoming affiliate football-only members, the agreement may provide future non-conference dates to on-going GSC members following the conclusion of their affiliation.

Current football-only affiliate member North Greenville will extend their relationship with the GSC through the 2024 season. As part of Conference Carolinas' strategy to launch football, Shorter University has accepted an invitation to join the conference after next season. The institution will compete as an independent for the 2024 football season, with Shorter's other sports competing in Conference Carolinas. The GSC football schedule will feature nine teams for a total of eight games in both 2023 and 2024.

Shorter was in Gulf South Conference. This is putting pressure on Gulf South Conference for football.

You do wonder because they lost North Greenville and Shorter that the 6 remaining members might want to look at D1 for football and the ASUN or Southland for membership? They lost Florida Tech a couple years back.

Belmont Abbey was looking to be adding football. With this announcement? Do you think they would now pull the trigger? UNC-Pembroke is still a threat to leap to D1.

In 2025, the GSC and Coastal Carolinas will both have 6 teams. Looks like the GSC is helping this effort these next couple of years which will surely result in a scheduling alliance moving forward as both will need it.
