Why is that? Of all the D2 moves in the last 10 years, NWOSU is one of a handful that I think could move back. D2 never made sense for them in the first place.

They are a public school with only 2300 enrollment. The NCAA denied them the move up to D2 once before.

NWOSU has been a full D2 member for all of 3 years and has shown improvement each year. Don't be so quick to judge.

I am talking about fiances. They are the ones who have to travel for all sports to southeastern Arkansas. Oklahoma Panhandle State were D2 longer than NW Oklahoma State, and could not afford it anymore. They are the ones who are outliers to the rest of the conferences. The closest school to them are OPSU.

Yeah, Northwestern Oklahoma State is EXACTLY the same as Oklahoma Panhandle State. NWOSU is in a conference with all members in OK and AR with the longest trip being 550 miles; OPSU was in a conference that stretched from southmost TX to Wichita, KS and at one time included members from MO, MT, and NM. NWOSU is small but it is nearly twice the enrollment of OPSU. For all the trips NWOSU has to make to southeastern Arkansas, Arkansas-Monticello has to make the same number of trips to northwestern Oklahoma.

Rogers State to MIAA:

https://rsuhillcats.com/news/2018/10/18/...sKzuvRuqrA

They are currently in the Heartland Conference. Instead of moving to the Lone Star next year with the rest of the conference, they are moving north to the MIAA. Like Newman (making the same move), they do not have football.

A few years ago from the local paper, Rogers State was looking to add some sports. Football was one of them. For them being in the Heartland and going to Lone Star was going be very expensive to travel. Going to the MIAA would be cheaper for them if they added more sports including football. UCO, NE Okie State, Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern are all driving distance for them.

The press release says they're not adding football.

Nonetheless, they will still save on travel expenses by moving to the MIAA.

I did not say that they will. Just saying as they are adding sports, football could be looked at in the future.

UAFS should also go and join them as well. Would add another school that could cut down on their spending for travel as well.

Wow. Rogers State University itself on their own website officially stated yesterday; "RSU officials said the university will not be adding football to its athletic programs." You can't get any clearer than that. Despite that statement you still believe they are looking into adding football based on some fictitious article in some random local newspaper from a few years ago.

MIAA fans were upset with Newman coming in and they are more upset now. They don't like having non-football members. Granted, the fans don't run the MIAA. UAFS gets the benefit of lower travel costs by going to the MIAA but there are no benefits for the MIAA to add UAFS. UAFS stretches the MIAA footprint farther south, RSU is closer to most current members than Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State. The MIAA adding UAFS would also create an odd number of non-football and total conference members. The Newman and Rogers State additions are only replacements for 2 departing members. Almost no one believes the MIAA will expand to more than 14 total members.

I remember hearing from someone within St. Thomas (Houston) athletics in 2008 that they were going NCAA Division II very soon with the hope of joining NCAA Division I shortly after that. I have no idea what happened in the decade since but apparently plans changed.

dammit, I just updated the D-I and D-II maps for wiki 2 days ago.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/College_basketball
maps to the right when you scroll down and it shows the list of conferences

David St., see if you can find any news on UC Merced looking to join the CCAA. I think they are way too big for their NAIA conference and are a perfect fit for the CCAA. Same for UC Santa Cruz and D-III, if they just put some funding in athletics, they have all the CCAA schools near them over being one of 3 Indys left in D-III w the closest schools in SoCal.

Looks like Staten Island would be replacing LIU-Post in the ECC.

That's a surprise. LU-B is a perfect NAIA school. It is a 15 years old branch campus, only becoming a separately accredited school in 2011. It has an enrollment of 1300 full time students. And it offers 33 varsity sports according to wiki. Many NAIA schools use sports to boost student enrollment: the school offers a $2000 scholarship and the student pays $15,000 in tuition. LU-B is in a NAIA conference that fits them well. So why the move??

D3 means no scholarships. Is this a cost savings measure? I understand that being an NCAA school means more paperwork and administration. Often they hire someone to manage the extra NCAA requirements. Do they think being NCAA D3 is more attractive (enhances their brand) more than being NAIA? I hope this is a good step for them.

I've been impressed with LU-B's growth bringing higher education to a community that didn't have any other 4 year schools. There is only 1 other 4 year school in the county (McKendree) and its tuition is 70% higher than LU-B.

There are more Illinois schools in D3 than there are at the NAIA level. Travel cost would be better for them for all sports. There are only 2 football Illinois members at the D2.

UC Merced needs to add sports. They have 4 sports for each gender (basketball, cross country, soccer, and volleyball) and they also do not have a women's spring sport. I've kept track of UCM for quite some time and if they have an interest in D2 their progression has basically been at a stand-still.

Wasn't UC Santa Cruz about to eliminate athletics just 3 years ago? What is their financial situation now and do they have the ability to afford D2?
