Football isn't a consideration because their only choice is the Sooner Conference. The SSAC is a better "like school" alignment in every other way. In the NAIA, the primary conference selection factors are geographical footprint and playing similar schools. The RRAC has too many state and HBCU schools to be "similar" to Louisiana College. But I am already hearing talk of a potential OOC rivalry with LSU-Alexandria, who didn't have athletics. Not even sure they were offering Bachelors Degrees at the time.

Apparently Louisiana College is rejecting the Baptist connection "fit" they have with the SSAC schools, doesn't want to be aligned with "like schools" even if they are more alike in every other way and favor "too many state schools and HBCUs".

Anyone with a map knew the SSAC made zero sense.

It apparently wasn't their first choice. See their comments here:

https://lacollege.edu/louisiana-college-...admission/

I didn't have that article when you were making making the "prediction" of which they would join lol. Bravo for you "finding" and posting it now.

But anyone knew joining a conference that stretches around 1000 miles makes no sense. Its either the distance or their sketchy reputation that got them their reject notice. Either way, they are where they belong and where I predicted, despite not knowing that they had publicly stated their intent. Baptist or not, this school has more in common with Jarvis Christian, Paul Quinn and Wiley than William Carey.

Ah, the danger of the written word. I think you misconstrued my intent. I wan't making some broad prognostication, I was relaying what I believed. The difference between:

->I<- think that....

and

I ->think<- that....

At the time, I was sure I had read somewhere that they preferred the SSAC, but when it came time to posting it, couldn't find the reference. And couldn't remember whether it was from an official source or some loony poster on a forum somewhere. In any case, the SSAC made perfect sense to me so I relayed the information here, saying that I only "think" that's what they wanted.

Once you said so, I decided to look a little harder to find where I got that idea. Google was helpful. You might try it sometime or you'd known about it too.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (near Terra Haute Indiana) has been approved for NAIA membership. They were USCAA. No mention of conference affiliation. I count 5 that would be plausible.

https://www.victorysportsnetwork.com/Cli...ership.htm

Crossroads League is primarily Indiana based private colleges.
American Midwest Conference has a lot of St Louis teams and Terra Haute isn't that far from there.
River States conference has 4 Indiana schools, including new member Oakland City which is near Terra Haute.
Wolverine Hoosier conference now has mostly Michigan schools but Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne is still in it.
Chicagoland - kinda far from Chicago but it's plausible.

My guess is they'll go Crossroads if the Crossroads will have them.

Terre Haute, IN is just a sneaky 2 1/2 hours from STL.

Right, much closer than three Arkansas schools in the AMC.

River States seems more likely to me. The Crossroads League is probably the most stable conference in the NAIA (no members have left in 30 years, and only two have joined in the last 25), and I don't know if they'd take a new NAIA member.

Iowa Wesleyan has been approved for NAIA membership. Currently D3 since 2012, when they left the NAIA. No mention of which conference they have applied to.

GPAC maybe? The Heart also has Iowa members.

NAIA release says SMWC has contacted the River States Conference. https://www.naia.org/general/2020-21/rel...rs_10_6_20

My hunch for Iowa Wesleyan is CCAC/MSFA like St. Ambrose.

I think iowa Wes will go to the AMC along with Crowleys Ridge at some point. SMWC will probably go east to the River States. Lincoln Christian still stuck in no mans land maybe.

Well, mine was just an idle comment and was correct. I'm not here to try to promote my own dead discussion board. You told me to look it up and its you that should have done your own research because it was you that called it wrong. No wonder your site has died!

Occidental (D-III Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) is dropping football:

https://www.oxy.edu/news/occidental-make...2i73gogZns

The first time I ever heard of Occidental College was when their game with San Diego was televised by CBS as replacement programming during the NFL players strike of 1982.

Jack Kemp and Barack Obama both attended Occidental. Kemp played quarterback there before a long pro career.

That program has struggled for a while. A friend of mine's son was on the football team a few years ago when they had to suspend their season because (IIRC) they lacked enough players.
