Sweet! I was wondering when they would start athletics there. Good NAIA conference to start with.
They in process of building for 25k+ enrollment so I doubt they will be in the NAIA for long. Good D1 candidate in 15 years....unless there is a break in the NCAA.

Texas A&M- Central is now on the clock. They only have men and women's rugby, but they had plans on going D1 including a possible FBS in the future.

Speaking as someone that was formerly stationed at Fort Hood during the UCT days when the discussion of transitioning to a public university was going on, it's gonna be awhile. First they need to add lower division students. Then they need to become more than the defacto night school for Fort Hood. The student body won't be as interested in the traditional college experience than you would see in a traditional setting like Mary Hardin-Baylor on the other side of Bell County.

(assuming you are addressing the Texas A&M- Central comment)

The NAIA doesn't require lower division students. Certainly they would want some so that they could build a program, but that would be a good way of seeding the underclassmen population, with athletes. And having an athletics program with underclassmen would help in establishing a traditional collegiate (non-night school) culture. So it could all happen at the same time and even be helpful in doing so.

I believe he's referencing the FBS comment. Yes, football is big in Texas but it does have its limits. TAMU-Central is halfway between UTexas and Baylor and a total of 11 FBS schools (including non-fb UTA) within 3 hours of the school. Not to mention all the FCS schools in the area. If TAMU-Central does add athletics, their ceiling would be D2. That ceiling also applies to TAMU-SA with a FBS and a FCS school already in town. If either one was to make it to FBS, we will not see it.

I was addressing both. I have seen the renderings of the TAMU-CT campus. There would need to be a ton of fundraising to make the facilities realistic. I don't see them having that capacity anytime soon, particularly with so much of the Killeen population being overly transient due to Fort Hood.

University of New Haven Looking To Join D1

Could they get an invite? The lower tier conferences should look into to be mega conferences with schools in their footprints to cut travel costs and in case the P5 basketball schools do not want to play them.

North American University in Houston, Texas looks like they are applying for NAIA for 2020. There are websites saying they would join the Red River Conference. They sent out a Tweet about it, but can not find any articles on them. They do have sports including football.

That is one of cheapest private schools I have seen. Pretty streamlined with degrees that get good jobs.

Roosevelt University And Robert Morris Illinois Agree To Merge Upon Approval

Both schools are in Illinois. Robert Morris also have other campuses like Robert Morris-Peoria and another in Springfield. Both are members of the NAIA.

Looks like RMU's program gets killed off, with the players and coaches that best fit included in Roosevelt's program. All scholarships honored, and JV teams created to provide more opportunities. RMU has about 4 times as many athletes as Roosevelt. They say that all programs survive. I think that means RMU football gets rebranded Roosevelt football.

NAIA Park University (suburban Kansas City) is joining the Heart of America conference next year.
http://www.heartofamericaconference.com/...e/4006.php

I think this is a result of no longer having 2 divisions in Men's basketball. So NAIA realignment is beginning. The HoA in the past required football and Park doesn't have football. So that's interesting. PU is in the American Midwest Conf which is more centered on St. Louis. The HoA has a footprint a bit better for Kansas City. Is that the reason for the change?

Park and Bellevue (suburban Omaha) has some great basketball battles before Park went D1. I wish we could put the old Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference back together with Park, Okla Wesleyan, Coll of Ozarks, & York. "Thanks" to NAIA realignment, Bellevue ended up in a North Dakota-centric conference. Anyone up for a road trip to Dickinson North Dakota in the middle of winter? What, no takers??

Since both Park and the Heart are D1, I don't think this particular move is related to the divisional merger. The Heart not requiring football is a more likely reason, it just took a couple of years for it to happen. And the Heart also lost Avila to the KCAC, so Park is a replacement rather than an expansion. Park is in the heart of the Heart, so they were the obvious choice.
