They want to speed it up...keep the clock moving on first downs. Do we need a committee for that?

If a player doesn't call for a fair catch right away, the blocking in front still occurs at full speed. So that does not eliminate injuries in that aspect.

Also, coaches may be inclined to have kickers with less leg perform KO duties, or more "hangers" which may actually lead to more returns.

Can also foresee the interpretation on the correct signal come into play, much moreso than punts. Then you expect quick call/whistle by official or none in which the returner becomes fair game. Most KO are more line drive and the returning trying to catch it in stride rather than just making a play on punts. Punts you miss it, just goes further down field, perhaps touch back. Miss on a ko, other team recovers.
