ECU will start winning soon, maybe as early as next year.

:lmfao:you have absolutely no understanding of basketball. Dooley has no chance of a winning conference record for a minimum of three years.

Regardless if I believe that reality or not, all it takes is one stud recruit in basketball and things can happen.

ECU is a slow rebuild - it's semi-similar to Tulane in that respect.

Next season you'll hover in the 100-150 rpi range if all goes well.

I'm giving year 1 for Dooley to learn what he needs in the AAC, year 2 to have the starting building blocks, and year 3 to put us somewhere in the middle of the conference.

Something has to have been built before it can be rebuilt. Let's be real here, Dools is basically starting from scratch.

We got some nice pieces... one can argue the coaching. Some of the non-nice pieces need to show up though.... too many disappearing players. I have to say though, APR over the summer, might come into play but still a long ways to go before it is actually a issue we have to deal with on an official level.

If they get to 100 to 150 next year, that would be amazing for the conference.

Dooley definitely has some work to do, but he is inheriting some decent players. One of the guys that Dooley is inheriting is Shawn Williams, who is the conference freshman of the year. Another guy that he is inheriting is Jeremy Sheppard, who sat out this year on some kind of administrative issue. Sheppard was on the AAC all freshman team last year. Both of those guys will only be sophomores in the Fall.

Then there is Kentrell Barkley. It is not clear what is going on there, because he may have left the team. If Dooley can get him to return then Barkley is an all conference caliber player. Ike Flemming is decent too, but I think that he would be better coming off of the bench. ECU also has a couple of decent incoming freshmen. Jayden Gardner and DeShaun Wade should be able to contribute next season.

Don't confuse Lebo losing a lot of games with ECU not having talent. Lebo just sucked as a coach. It didn't matter who Lebo had. He was not going to win with any caliber of player.

I'd agree, I think we have some talent. Joe needs to instill the discipline and consistency piece.

You forgot Leday in that group. He is itching to get back on the floor and is supposed to be a very good shooter.

Our roster isn't set yet, but Dooley is an ace recruiter. I don't see any team in this league so talented next season they aren't beatable. College hoops is all about parity in 2018.

Yep.... We were at 274 this year. If we get down to the 137 range, that would be cutting it in half, and a fantastic result for year one.

I wouldn't count on Shepherd or Barkley.

Local newspaper guy

That's lower than I expected

Sounds like he had demands to get to the middle of the AAC in terms of budget. I'm sure that has something to do with it. But i'm sure that's just his base salary. Pretty sure he will get an extra 500k a year to do the talk show like was in Lebo contract. I heard it was going to be around a total of 1.3 mil. total money.

No his base is 400k. 900k is the total compensation.

Correct. Very incentive-laden. More details from Jeremy Igoe at HTC:

Dooley, whose salary at Florida Gulf Coast was $350,000, will see a substantial raise at ECU. Dooley’s base salary alone over his five-year contract (April 4, 2018-May 31, 2023) is worth $400,000, and he’s set to bring in hundreds of thousands more annually in other compensation.

In Year 1, Dooley’s total salary will reach $900K after $275,000 in Pirate Club/season ticket promotion work, while earning another $225,000 for his broadcasting responsibilities through television, radio and internet platforms with IMG.

Dooley’s base salary ($400K) and Pirate Club money ($275K) will stay the same over the length of his deal, while the IMG portion will increase by $25,000 annually, ultimately culminating in a payment of $325,000 for 2022-23, moving Dooley’s total annual salary in Year 5 to a smooth $1 million.

For comparison sake, former ECU coach Jeff Lebo was set to bring in a total package of $900,000 for the 2017-18 season before his resignation this past November.

Incentives for Dooley on top his salary include the following:

Bonuses for increase in season tickets sold over immediately preceding year (250-499 = $12,500, 500-749 = $25,000, 750-999 = $37,500, 1000-1249 = $50,000)
If ECU sells 4700 season tickets or more at any point, Dooley will receive a one-time payment of $50,000
Dooley will receive a payment of $35,000 if the Pirate Club increases its annual fund dollars by five percent from the previous calendar year.
Separate APR, GPA and graduation-related bonuses ranging from $2,500-$20,000
For each regular season in which the team wins 20 or more games, Dooley receives $10,000
For each regular season in which the team wins 50 percent or more of its AAC games, Dooley receives $20,000
If ECU wins the AAC regular season title, regardless of it’s a co-championship or not, Dooley gets $50,000
A conference tournament championship nets Dooley $15,000
An NCAA tournament appearance gets Dooley $20,000
A national championship appearance earns Dooley a bonus of $50,000 and a national championship victory gets him $100,000
If ECU is ranked in the Top 25 in the final AP Poll, Dooley receives $50,000
If employed through July 1, 2022, Dooley gets a one-time longevity bonus of $250,000

Dooley will also get reimbursement of up to $15,000 in moving expenses as part of his deal with the program.

Dooley must pay ECU $1,000,000 in liquidated damages to terminate the agreement without cause if he accepts other employment in the first three years of his contract. That number drops to $400K in Year 4 and $200K in Year 5.

The contract also reads that ECU will be responsible for the $25,000 buyout owed to Florida Gulf Coast, "if permitted by applicable law and policy."

Skip to 0:58 mark for the President's comments, 3:32 for the AD's, and 11:55 to hear the new FGCU HC's comments on what Dooley meant to the program and to each of them in particular. The regard they still hold for the job he did down there and the man he is in general speaks volumes about how good of a hire this was for ECU.

As much as Bobby Lutz lobbied for the job that would be my first call. He was certainly open to the idea of living and working here so maybe he would consider the top assistant job and will apply. It's got to be a better job and better paying job than the DLeague assistant job he has in Illinois. He's from NC and most of his career has been spent in NC as well, got to think he would like to get back to the area anyway. If we somehow ended up with Dooley and Lutz that would be the dream scenario.
