RE: Yawn. Sandlin is Conference Pitcher of the Week again
Sandlin is rated as the 164th best prospect by MLB.com.

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=draft

Excerpt of their write-up on him. Full report and scouting grades are on his page that I linked.

Sandlin recorded 20 saves in his first two seasons at Southern Mississippi and dealt in the Cape Cod League last summer, then shifted to the rotation this spring. The move couldn't have gone much better, as he ended the regular season leading NCAA Division I in WHIP (0.71) and ranking second in ERA (1.25). He has high spin rates on his pitches, making him even more attractive to analytically minded clubs.

MLB: “Sandlin will have to tighten his slider at the next level, because pro hitters won't chase it as much as collegians do.”

Plagiarizing SOBs.

“His slider is untouchable at this level but I don't think it will translate that well to the next level as an out pitch unless he tightens up the movement.”

Nope.

Professional scouts always consult the wisdom of random message board posters.

Sandlin will have a long and prosperous career as a middle/long reliever in the big leagues

Unfortunately, for us, it will be starting after this season.

I think Sandlin has a legit chance of winning the Golden Spikes Award.

I really don't get why anyone cares about awards that don't matter .....especially when it's impossible to compare pitching vs. positional and have an internutz bias....

there's a reason the MLB draft mostly goes after arms early....that's easily all the Sand man cares about....

how many awards are dispensed now....it's a ridiculously silly number at this point....

Should Bowen get the starts instead of Donaldson in the regional?

Don’t agree. Really good exposure for the program. Especially given that it is tough for non-major conference teams to recruit pitching.

that's a fair point.....

however, the internet aspect also allows the largest fanbase to skew the numbers.....

IMO, it simply becomes a popularity contest....

Fan voting in most of these things is normally like 5-10%. Has it increased this year?
