ESPN+ coming soon
Borrowing this from the main MAC board.
If I read this correctly, for $4.99/month one can get streamed everything from the ESPN family of channels + ESPN3.
I believe it also means MAC games on ESPN3 are no longer a freebie.
For someone, like me, with the whole ESPN family of channels (via DirecTV) I think it costs me another 5 bucks per month.
For someone w/out cable or DirecTV or some other medium which includes all of ESPN, they can get a ton of sports for 5 bucks / month.

Can this be purchased outside of a traditional cable company by subscription?
I'm cutting the cord this Fall and need some options for how to stream sports channels.

I want to know if this increases the revenue for the Mac schools. I already pay my Comcast bill every month. If I have to pay for a subscription then I'd like to see them make it available through Comcast. Tired of watching games on the laptop and phone. LOL.

Yes, it sounds like cutting the cord.

Totally, I would gladly pay $5 a month to watch the game on my tv. Wonder if that would also make the connection better than a stream- could do without the choppiness as well. All that said, we could be getting ahead of ourselves, as this may be &6 extra bucks to stream as before.

I think for folks, that's us, used to ESPN3 that it is nothing new.
As I read this, it is STREAMING, which is what we have now.
For ESPN it is an opportunity to monetize streaming with some added features, but I still think it is streaming.

That's great! I'm sick of paying $80 for 10 channels that I watch 16hrs a month.
I love where TV is going. A la cart.

Yes, folks don't need to buy an upgraded tier of cable service if they really just want the ESPN family of stations.
As most may know, one can hook a phone with a HDMI cable to a TV and send the video to the television set.
Or simply watch on a tablet.
I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet which is very high resolution and frequently I watch ESPN3 stuff on it rather than a PC or bothering to hook up the phone to the TV.
When I was in So. Cal during the MAC tourney indeed I was trying to watch the MAC tourney on a tablet. Worked well except for CBS SN where the buffering was bad and I missed part of the TOL semis.

I'm a big fan of YouTube Tv. You get all ESPN channels (including ESPN3), FS1 and FS2, B1G, CBSSN, NBCSN, plus the regional sports channels (Fox Sports Detroit for Michigan) and local channels. And on top of that, you get staple cable entertainment channels as well (TNT, A&E, FX, etc.). All for only $35/$40.
Perfect for me who mostly just wants sports and my GF who wants all the non-sports channels.

I was thinking about going all-in with that YouTube TV. Do you use the HDMI TV antenna for the local channels if it's a national telecast?

Nope. They come in digitally, just like any other channel.
I don't have a Roku or anything. Just use Chromecast and the app/website.
