So you want the 5th best player on a team in his best year. Year before last at UAB it went like this at UAB:

Robert Brown
Chris Cokley
William Lee
Dirk Willams
Nick Norton

Norton looked good because when he got the ball to Brown, Cokley, Lee or Williams they knew what to do with it. This year is was basically only Lee and Cokley, gone are Brown and Williams and in their place was Zack Bryant and Nate Darling and neither measured up to Brown or Williams. Couple that with 6'10 freshman Makhtar Gueye never getting his feet under him as a new comer it didn't bode well for UAB.

We need a few shooters so people can't zone us to death.

Not sure where that kid thinks he is going to go, and make any impact. Could have done well with UAB and finished his career there. Not sure who would want a kid in cusa averaging 7 points a game.

Bryant had one of the best freshman seasons in UAB history.

The two bench players were not losses. Lavender was pouting from the moment he wasn’t a started, and smallwood played mop up minutes. Norton is a starter for a really talented team. Darling is a sixth or seventh man on a good roster. The staff is making changes for a reason. They may not work, but how many people believe Norton and Darling were going to guide us to greatness next year?

We desperately need better perimeter defense. We're getting much more athletic players coming in. We'll see if that translates to more defense. But I'll say this, every guard in the league was able to shoot over Norton and Darling was turnover-prone once he got anywhere close to the paint.

Norton was a leader on the court, though. Hard to replace someone like that.

I would suspect, coming off the injury, he may not have been 100% last year.

The league has lot a lot of good players (many of them underclassmen) since the season has ended, unfortunately.

Norton going to Drake next year. That seems to be a lateral move at best - at best. At least the Rice guys transferring out end up at bigger programs.

I would be fairly upset to see my point guard go from UAB to Drake and the guy's Dad is HC at same university.....That's a pretty big slap in the face, UAB is going to have to cut ties quickly with their HC if they have a pretty bad season this year, clear a lot of guys trying to get out anyway possible....

Like who? No one that left would be a big contributor next year. This needed to happen.

Drake isn't a lateral move, its a step down for sure. Like I said, no one is jumping up to grab their phones fr a guy like Norton.

Norton choosing Drake means he really wanted to be a starting PG. This tells me the coaching staff decided this is Scootie Bryant's team going forward and made sure everyone on the team knew it. At some point near the end of the season, the UAB radio guys made mention of Scootie being the future leader of the program... we'll see what happens.
