For those of us who were paying for MLS Live, this is a great deal. If you want to follow USL soccer it is a great deal.
I noticed that they now offer a free MLS game of the week on social media.

Fair point. But I have heard from fans of USL who are annoyed that their formerly free content is now behind a payroll. The risk for USL is how many will now stop watching v. How many will get +

As a big fan of a team now in the USL I am not unhappy with the decision at all. I watched the NCFC/CLT game last night and had multiple other USL games splitscreen at the same time. It was very cool.

Between USL and SunBelt sports the ESPN+ subscription was a no-brainer.

Yeah it sucks if you were getting this content for free, I was too. If you're a fan of American soccer, it's a no brainer. The added MLS, USL, NHL, and MLB content makes it worth the $5. If you don't like soccer, hockey, or baseball, then it's not very worthwhile. At least during the spring/summer when there's no college football/basketball

I wrote a letter to espn and asked them to stop referring to 5 of the 10 FBS football conferences as “non-power” conferences. No one is forcing them to use the identity politics labels in their sportscasting but they doubled down and go out of their way to do it even more. No, not a penny to a “sportscaster” actively trying to destroy college athletic teams with their destructive labeling.

Agreed. They should use the official NCAA terminology, which is "Non-Autonomy" conferences. 07-coffee3

No. Wrong. That’s not what the NCAA says. It says FBS, FCS etc. our schools are part of the 10 official FBS conferences. So No, Quo.

Actually, yes. We are among the 10 FBS conferences, but then there's a further division between Autonomy and Non-Autonomy. See pages 5 and 52, among others.

I think they should use "Non-Autonomy". Sounds much more clinical and to my ears less degrading. If they feel the need to separate FBS into two divisions that's what sounds most appropriate to me.

RE: ESPN+ Rolls out on April 12
Talking about USL, it is a popular league with teams in a lot of major cities. We get all the weekend Charleston Battery games locally on MyTV, but there are 5 weekday games that they don’t carry because they don’t want to preempt their rerun schedule. There is one game on ESPNews, but there are 5 games that will be on ESPN+ only even locally.

One thing ESPN should look at doing is trying to make deals with the major minor league sports. The ECHL package ALONE costs $199 for the season. You aren’t getting many takers there. To get a package of one AHL team is about $100 for a season. The MILB package is $12.99 a month, $50 a year for a very large percentage of their games.

Those teams has small followings in an area, but when you add 30-31 AHL and ECHL teams, and die-hard fans of baseball teams that want to see their team’s prospects, there is a following there that isn’t small.

Are you serious? $200 for minor league hockey? That seems a bit excessive

I'm a roku 3 user, but unfortunately it looks like technology may be leaving roku behind. It may be time for all of us to switch to Chromecast or something else (I haven't done the research yet, just basing this on technical issues I've been having with roku).

I've had a Chromecast for years. Very easy and simple to use. I can cast most things from my phone, tablet, or computer to my tv screen.

What kind of problems are you experiencing? I have two of the Roku Expresses (or whatever they are called) and I've never had any issues at all.

The Roku has been a great device and best of all—it’s been the most agnostic streaming device in that it doesn’t steer you one way or another like Apple or Chromcast. Frankly, im very surprised Roku has no app for ESPN+. They are typically the easiest device to get an app for—far easier than say Apple TV. Roku dominates the market in streaming device sales (37% of the market) and has the largest installed base among streaming device users. Seems like a real unforced error by ESPN to not have a Roku app ready to go by the ESPN-Plus launch date.

Might have held back Roku just to give their payment servers an easier time. It's the most common device and the preferred device of the most hardcore cord-cutters. Let the others sign up then open up Roku once you get past the first round of signups.

Or giving the early advantage to some of the devices that carry their other channels through their streaming services ie YouTubeTV with Chromecast.

That's one reason why I have a Roku. I don't want to be sucked in to the Apple or Google universes. It's why I won't ever get a Chromebook or an IPad. I like to be agnostic, not tied in to any one company's orbit.

Yup. I have an ipad and love the device--but there was a period of time where there was no app for the Amazon Prime streaming service. Thought that was pretty petty. That said, the Amazon Fire is a cheap reasonably solid alternative. My mom, who is in her 80's, has one and loves it.

That link sent me off somewhere else for some reason. Maybe this story will link better. At any rate, that good news for Roku users. I have one on the tv in our family room, one in my study, and one on my back patio. Those are the 3 most likely places where I'd watch a game on ESPN+
