I think either San Diego is now looking a different direction or Pope is not interested...

RE: Mark Pope to San Diego??
I think all the WAC coaches are safe. Even though Jan's had an amazing year, not winning in the Big dance hurt him and he still needs a few more years to pass after the coed butt slapping scandal. Majerle isn't going anywhere. He's getting paid big bucks because he's Dan Majerle. He's an average coach that can't win in a league no one has respect for. Besides, no one is going to pay him what he's getting overpaid for by GCU. I don't see any other coach being snatched away any time soon. The Weir UNM thing was an anamoly. No one else wanted to be at UNM and the slimy AD Krebs got a hold of greedy primadonna Weir and a match was made in heaven.

RE: Mark Pope to San Diego??
I think this season hurt Barnes' stock. Barnes is an old school coach who puts all his eggs (for success) on his defense. As we found out this season, a good coach needs to produce an offense as well. Barnes' teams on not difficult to defend. An opposing team just needs to bring a lot of bandages... and possibly safety goggles and a mouth guard.

Majerle runs a pro type offense which the media adores. And, his defense did improve this year. However, Majerle continually asks for effort from his team that many of his players are not equipped to produce. He needs better players. Also, there is an unexplainable randomness to Majerle's substitution patterns that continue to baffle me. He doesn't develop/play his best players. And, instill a confidence.

Pope has done a good job at Utah Valley using D1 transfers to win short term. However, He hasn't really proven he can develop a four year player from freshman to senior. I think that hurts his coaching status with upper echelon programs. Until he takes a team smatters with four years players and put them in a position to win the WAC, there will be questions about his ability to build a program from the ground up.

Seattle U. is on the right track with hiring Hayford. In his two recruiting classes he has signed a number of D1 transfers and some freshmen. We will see if these new player eventually exhibit the style of play Hayford truly wants to runs. I am still unsure about Hayford's dedication to defense just yet because he is forced to work around Menzies limitations; if he wants Menzies on the court. So, Hayford is playing a lot of zone currently. However, I think once Hayford is able to establish his character on the court, WAC fans will see a free flowing wide open offense that puts up a lot of threes.

Hill has improved UTRGV's talent level but I am still not convinced he is a good coach. UTRGV was not a very good with the fundamentals needed to move up the WAC pecking order.

Richardson is a decent evaluator of freshmen but he can't seem to keep his players bought in to the system in order get them to stick around for more than a couple years.

Dildy was a good coach for the money. However, he was asked to produce a competitive program with both hands tied behind his back.

None of these WAC coaches are successful enough to be plucked away by a bigger programs. And, GCU fans need not worry about losing Majerle anytime soon. If Majerle is making a million dollars a year, he is way over priced for programs not in the power 5. And, he has not accomplished enough to be on anyone's radar. So, Majerle will be at GCU a long time; at least until Majerle gets bored with coaching.

Being the Interim AD didn't help him either. Felt they got worse when he became the AD.
