Does this change anything? He can still come back, right? Didn’t we always know he was entering the draft but not signing with an agent?

His quotes from the ESPN article sound like he's gone. Not signing with an agent yet but he probably will. I think ESPN has him ranked in the mid 20s of their top 100.

RE: Evans...
Sounds like this is the next step, first declare yourself eligible and see what teams says. Sounds like he heard enough NBA people say he is a first round pick that he is declaring.

"I didn't sign an agent yet, but I'm entering my name with plans on getting picked in the first round. I'm not just testing to come back to school," Evans said."

If he gets picked in the first round he is gone, if not he's probably coming back. But he wouldn't be entering the draft if he didn't think he would be a first round pick based on what NBA people are telling him.

Good luck to him. He's obviously not making this decision without knowing that he's got a chance to go in the first round. I think he's a guy who's stock will rise in workouts and interviews.

Now Mick is going to have excuses for the next few years. Evan's left early. Cumberland leaves early next year (maybe). "If I didn't put guys in the NBA early every year we'd be winning national championships." We all know that's coming

Isn't there a date that is the point of no return? I think there is a certain date before the draft that you have to pull out in order to go back to school. If he is in the draft come draft day, he's gone regardless of where, or if, he is picked. Sounds like he is gone anyway.

Yes, let's not turn this thread into another Cronin bashing. There are already enough of those. Good luck to Evans and his future career. We had him for 3 years so that's better than some programs get with potential NBA'ers. Not a bad thing for our program either to have someone drafted.

It's an awful thing when you consider we have nobody to replace him with. I mean, if he goes this is not a positive for the program. What could Mick say? I've put 3 guys in the NBA in a decade?

Yeah, you're right. Clark, Washington, Evans all gone. Let's just scrap the program because there's nothing else in the tank. Oh and while we're at it, let's criticize the coach because a talented dude leaves for the NBA. SMDH.

+ 1 BILLION

It is my opinion -- however flawed it might be -- that the "youth" on this board who know almost nothing about basketball have driven away more posters than Mick's coaching decisions ever will.

Last year we lost Ctip. He was a very special person. Ultimately, he lost his life because of his service to his country in 'Nam. Very few people know that Chris played college basketball and gave up his scholarship in order to join the Army and serve others.

I can't tell you how many times that Ctip laughed at the "young ***holes" as he called them who thought they understood hoops yet had no clue whatsoever.

Jackie, thanks for pointing out stupidity when you see it.

Exactly when will the statute of limitations be up on being butt-hurt over the Nevada game? Two weeks of pouting, whining, and self pity is getting really old.

Good luck to him. Adding another Bearcat to the league is an absolute positive for this program. Let's hope we see more players like SK and Jacob (Cumberland?) over the next few years.

I don't think it's going to. This town hasn't seen a winner in a looooooooooooong time. And when I say "winner" I'm not even referring to championships. We haven't even been able to sniff the opportunity to play for a championship in a long time. I think there is something special going on here..and not the good kind of special. Honest to god if you asked right now, my money would be on Mick leaving UC on his own accord for a lesser job in the not too distant future.

Oh and congrats to Jake...Loved getting to watch him as a Bearcat.

I think the "point of no return" is contracting with an agent. The minute you retain an agent your "amateur status" is gone.

I am pretty sure there are players who have gone into the draft and not liked where they fell to...or went undrafted...who returned to their teams. Not many, but I seem to recall some stories to that effect.

But I think it's almost impossible, as an underclassman, to expect to be drafted without an agent on board. There's just too much uncertainty otherwise. Why would a team waste a draft pick on a kid who hasn't gone "all in" when there is an abundance of seniors who have no eligibility left? So, if Evans is serious about going this route, I'm going to assume that he has inked a deal with an agent who is actively promoting him.

I'm sorry to see him go... I think his draft stock likely would have only gone up with another year and the exposure of being the "top guy" on this team would have provided. But best of luck to him.
