RE: Easiest path to the national title game ever?
The final last night proved once again that The Big Ten is overrated. The only team that could have had an easier path to the title was Kentucky. Michigan had no business being there. They had played no one.
Sad to see real basketball conferences like The ACC and Big East wear each out other during the regular season getting tournament ready. By the time the March Madness rolls around the both conferences are tired. Thankfully Villanova still had enough to keep the championship where it belongs.
Glad to see The Big Ten drought continue...

They were the one-off crew. Didn't have to face UNC...TAMU saw to that. Didn't have to toss up against Gonzaga, FSU handled them. The South bracket is going to go down as one of the craziest regions in history...Michigan got them.
But, in all fairness, after losing to Northwestern, they went 14-0 until last night. And for the remainder of the Big Ten season, they sat down the best of that conference. They didn't help UMD's, Nebraska's, or Penn State's causes letting them get one by. They put down the Buckeyes. Then, they eased on by Michigan State and Purdue. Saying the Big Ten was weak is one thing...Michigan was clearly the best thing from it, though.
And, really, Michigan is a product of this season. Nobody could sustain any sort of dominance, including Villanova at times (hey, they lost to St. John's, too). Michigan's run from early February was about the best we saw all season. That's worth some respect.

Hopefully Virginia has the legs to keep within 20 of Maryland-Baltimore County next year.

UMBC? They better not schedule Albany, who beat UMBC by 44.

Why is it Michigan's fault their road to the final was easier? Shouldn't the blame be put on Xavier for losing to Nevada or North Carolina for not showing up against Texas A&M??? Or Virginia who couldn't even get past UMBC? Michigan played the teams that they were supposed to play.
Enjoy those hookers though.

It's nobody's fault but it is what it is.

Probably more teams than ever had a shot at actually winning.
Virginia was probably the least impressive #1 ranked team I remember.

There have been plenty of poor number 1's, including Kansas this year.
Loyola was not a Final Four team, they were just clutch and took advantage of a busted bracket. Sister Jean would have minimal fanfare had they lost to Miami as they could have in the first round.

From someone who hates UofMich: High seeds are supposed to have easy paths to the National Title.

RE: Easiest path to the national title game ever?
They were a 3-seed, which means they were supposed to have played at least a 2 and a 1 if the chalk held. Even assuming upsets, you'd figure they'd have played a top 4 seed, which they didn't until the national title game. They even got a double digit seed in the Final Four after not playing a top 15 team in their region.
