RE: If you were in charge?
LU already has a nice Trade program. I would greatly expand that.
I would partner further with Hendricks Motorsports, and maybe NASCAR, to add an auto mechanic/engineering program.

The NASCAR idea is a good one. I haven’t thought about that but it could really be helpful. I know there are a few schools that do a business degree in PGA Management. Why not do a NASCAR Management business degree?

That may be a big possibility once the school of engineering is built and i believe we estsblished a concentration for mechanical engineering. Although the auto mchanic side of that would be intetesting; some of the old planned scetches of the old school had nascar cars pictyred in the aito shop section of the building.

FYI they partnered with Hendricks a couple years ago in the school of business I believe
interns can work for Hendricks auto dealerships too IIRC

It was on the school website

Speaking of statues, Alex Barbir should get one by the football stadium.

RE: If you were in charge?
I’d add a huge archway that says Liberty University at the main entrance of campus off of 460, and instead of a traffic light there, put in a large roundabout with a big water fountain in the center.

Did you think about this recently or have you been looking at old blueprints of the campus master plan from 2014? In that blue print, they have a roundabout and fountain set on that main entrance along with huge grass areas where the parking lot is located by the Ice Center (along with a parking garage). In the master plan feasible study book, it also discussed about moving the commercial businesses in Candlers shopping center, which could turn into a new "north campus" with academic buildings and residential areas. Since we know that they want the residential population to increase up to at least 25,000, that plan could be a possibility. It would make sense also since the mall campus will be expanding and could add those restaurants from Candlers.

Nah, I was just looking at the satellite google map image. Plus I passed the big Bellarmine arch last weekend at the game and thought it looked nice. We’ve already got that nice tunnel on the other side of campus, so I figured this side of campus needed a nice “welcome.”

RE: If you were in charge?
Marketing and Alumni engagement would be a major focus for the future. If in charge, my next phases would focus on the school of engineering, mentioned cafeteria and new location for the bookstore. I'd put the school of engineering where the bookstore is located. That is a great space for the school and the bookstore building could be an addition to the field. The bookstore would move to where the Rot is located now. This is a great location for students, family and visitors to maneuver by foot instead of transportation. Those projects should take 1.5-2 years. Near their completions, I would start tearing down the dorms of South Campus and building new dorms and add another academic building and small chapel for students of the South side. There would be about two dorms similar to Commons I & II, The school of Government, car garage and an nice park with a nice mini lake that the students can enjoy when they are not in class or at events happening around campus. That project would have 2-3 year period to complete. There may be a pondering period for financial reasons along with the focus going back to expanding the Bill as the football program continues to grow (maybe add a renovated mini soccer stadium and an indoor softball facility). There would be later projects about north campus; this would consist of establishing a school of government where the parking spaces are located by LIC, some grass areas with benches and mini dog park plus a parking garage(along with a roundabout by the 460 entrance). Additional projects would be discussion about Candlers Mt. shopping centers and the ability to shift the convenient stores by the mall location in order to create a mini campus for a theater and cinematography schools plus some areas to add backlots/studios for their big projects ( helpful for graduate school as well). The graduate campus would be the final big project which would take a few years (10+) to establish. Everything mentioned would be established with financial responsibility and as the student population grows. I'd hope that it would reach closer to 28k ( 24k undergrad and 4k graduate). All of this could become reality with Alumni, donors and hopefully better relationships in the region. I understand we are in Virginia Tech and UVA territory, but we should be the university impacting Lynchburg and all the surrounding towns. There's other things that could be mentioned (Schools of Agriculture/Computer Science/Nursing/interdisciplinary Studies/Law(extended)/Psychology/Public Administration w/Sociology/International Studies&Diplomacy, Liberty Hospital w/other medical facilities, etc.)but this is good for now lol. It has to be better when the focus is about training champions for Christ right?

Alumni are key. And tapping heavily into the online alumni is important. There are SO MANY and they are ALL OVER the nation. If they were invested in the university it would grow the school exponentially. I graduated with a master’s from LU Online and now I have three kids who are residential students at LU with a fourth on the way. I split my giving between the Flames Club and the annual fund drive to support academics. Liberty is great about keeping in contact with me and always giving me information. But, we definitely nees to get the local/regional alums to attend sporting events.

Developing the school of engineering is a priority for me as well. I like your location idea. However, I thought the school of nursing was going where the ROT is. Of course, that doesn’t mean the bookstore couldn’t still be co-located there. It would certainly be more centrally located for everyone.

Pretty sure that’s in the plan, or at least was. I’m all in on green space and water features.

Love the idea expanding the theater and cinematography school. Make Liberty/Lynchburg/Blue Ridge Mountains area the eastern mecca for family friendly movie/TV making. I’ve always been a proponent of school of agriculture. It’d need to be away from main campus, maybe out near the new lake or on the east side of 460.

One thing that needs improvement is campus parking. There needs to be several more parking garages put in. And they don’t all have to go vertical. When I lived in Korea, parking garages went down below ground. You can go 4-6 levels underground to preserve above ground aestetics if needed, or if that space is needed for academic buildings.

RE: If you were in charge?
How did I not remember to include the Honor's School? That is very important at any university. They had some images of the school located near the tower. The hill dorms were to be the dorms for honor students, with great renovations. Not sure if they'll continue with that idea but it was a great idea. Honors and School of Engineering should be the only two academic buildings(along with nursing if that project continues in the project location) on the present academic precinct. Any other academic buildings should be placed elsewhere in other locations (mentioned in previous post). ArmyMike, I like your idea of where the School of Agriculture should be located. Two more schools (ex: School of Computer Science/Cybersecurity, etc.) could also be placed on the South East side along with some dorms (Commons VII,VIII & IX) to create another lawn like the main campus. It would be beautiful to see dorms and academic buildings driving through 460 on both sides and hopefully a grad campus on the top and down the side of the mountain [leveled]. Going back to athletics, I would hope the trajectory of men's basketball continue to increase on a national level. I may consider bringing back the idea of the arena from the latest sketches (2014) that they had located on the property of Docs. It would fit around 5.5k-6k seats in an oval design from the interior of the building. The "Richie McKay" Arena will also include the new bigger renovated Doc's with the same 50's style design. It will be two levels, so that it will still maintain business daily and can hold a significant amount of people on game days(to beat that rush). The concessions will still exist, but I would likely get some other sponsored businesses like an Auntie Anne's, Starbucks, and Chick Fil-A. Most importantly, the Arena would hold a sports shop to get some gear(hopefully we'll get more and better options) and an All American room/museum in honor of all the athletes that Represented the School. Attached to the Arena could be a car garage and next to the arena can be another park, benches, lake and pathway leading to the dorms on the other side. By the way, the same idea of a sports shop would apply for Williams Stadium (since the bookstore would move). I'd hope the football program will continue to grow into an independent powerhouse. I would propose establishing a horseshoe for the bottom and leave the LU logo intact. Above would be a bigger horseshoe deck that would connect the east and west but may add more seating at the top. Might as well connect the other side with smaller size decks lengthway but extend the top also. We could even increase the size of the Football facility for future renovations as well. Furthermore, I'd renovate the lacrosse fields with extended bleachers and create a stadium type look with Jeffersonian architecture.

RE: If you were in charge?
Mentioned yesterday from ASOR member:

"It's been since late July that I was close enough to connections to get inside info on these things, but at that point the SoE was set to go up in the field across from the ice center and beside the Extended Stay. The area in front of DeMoss was originally for SoE but had been reallocated for a stand alone School of Nursing. I have heard rumblings from a few different people working for and with the University that DeMoss could have some issues itself requiring some fairly substantial renovations so that may be taking precedent over other projects. Not to mention the absolute chaos administratively over the last 10 or so months."

Other propositions to expand LU campus:

-Engineering Graduate Research Center
-Human Studies Facility
- School of Dentistry (accreditation The Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA))
- Veterinary School (accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education)
- Expansion of Theatre/Dramatic Arts
-Center for Humanities and Arts
-Biological Sciences Research Center
-Preliminary Planning for Pharmacology/Toxicology Center
-Inter-disciplinary Science Facility
-Health and Physical Education Complex (Located in center rear while grass/ mini park sits in the front across from indoor practice facility)
-Graphic Design Center

Athletics:
- Build separate facility for field hockey and lacrosse (use present fields for practice and intermural sports)
- If possible, build a facility structure with better bleachers/seats on present field(s).
- Indoor Softball facility
- New location soccer stadium and facility for men and women soccer (present field will be used for football/ outdoor track)
-renovate outdoor track
-Continue the plan to expand snow flex and find options to keep the slopes clean if possible

If we want to be the Norte Dame version for Evangelicals, let's actually do something! Lets walk the walk and not only talk the talk.

RE: If you were in charge?
Liberty bought I science engineering research facility in New London (only 10 minutes from campus on 460 in Bedford County) a few years ago. They were going to put the School of Engineering there, but decided they wanted an on-campus facility. I haven't heard what they're using it for now or the long term plans for it are now. Personally, I feel they've done enough with the main campus and it;s time to develop East Campus/Candler's (Liberty) Mountain a lot more. LU owns most of the undeveloped land on Candler's/Liberty Mtn. If you're driving eastbound on 460 LU owns everything from 29 almost until Campbell Ave. on the right.

Some changes that I'd make or things I'd do are:
1. I'd renovate the old TRBC, and I'd bring back the Seminary and put it there. I'm not entirely sure if they still have the Seminary or if it's somehow incorporated into the School of Divinity. They are putting a much needed re-emphasis on American Church planting, so a Christian conservative Seminary is needed. I'd also put the Falkirk Center there. I think training pastors and having a Christian conservative political think tank housed in dr. Falwell's old Church would be great way to honor him. I'd also move the Falwell Museum over there.
2. I'd bring back as many of the religious courses and majors that Jr. eliminated as much as is feasibly possible. I'd also ensure that there's still an adequate amount of Christian courses required of students. I've heard it's still an adequate amount and I've heard it's very minimal. I'll find out the reality shortly, as my daughter will be on campus this fall.
3. I'd press hard towards creating a full fledged medical school, not just osteopathic medicine. This would also include the dentistry that was mentioned.
4.. I liked the ideas of the archway and statues. Along those lines, I'd add either another Sparky or "LU" statue to the traffic circle coming off of 460 East. I'd paint Liberty, American, and Biblical murals inside the pedestrian and traffic tunnels. I'd also build a Monument Park somewhere on campus that would have an outdoor "Freedom Shrine" (if you've ever seen one, there used to be one in DeMoss near the old library, not sure where it was moved to) and statues of Dr, Falwell, Patrick Henry, a Statue of Liberty, a Cross, and other statues of Liberty, American, and Biblical figures and symbols. In the middle would be the trio of the American, VA, and Liberty flags. The park would be surrounded with the flags of the remaining 49 States, like was done in the old Courtyard.
5. Athletically, there's already talk of the possibility adding seats to the berm (closing in the lower horseshoe) of The Bill soon and they've already announce indoor practice facilities for softball. For football games they bring over a trailer to sell LU gear, and they have another small shop near the main gate across from the bookstore. Rather than build another MBB arena, I'd just renovate the Vines Center for MBB and move the there. I'd remove the concrete steps/seating areas and
replace it with reconfigurable seating, similar to Baylor's Ferrell Center to which the Vines is the poor man's version. I'd then let the Little Arena be the fancy home of WBB and volleyball.

Is this a thing that moat colleges have? I've never seen this on a campus before but my experiences are fewer than most.
