So the Wolverines were willing to pay nearly $2.2 million for a pair of easy wins rather than taking a chance against the Hokies? Maybe they saw the game in Columbus?

Won't really hurt VT any - there were 3 P5 teams scheduled for 2021 so this takes it down to 2. Still, a win in the Big House would've been nice.

That's what happens when the most hyped coach in the Big 10 is afraid his whole season could end in September.

Looks like Harbaugh wants only one P5 non-con game per season. Michigan still has home/home with Washington in 2020-2021.

They tried to buy that one out too. UW said "Nyet!"

If Harbaugh has two more seasons like this past one, he won't be around in 2020 to play Arkansas State.

Maybe the AD is planning ahead for the coach who gets transition

I thought Harbaugh had a lifetime contract? 05-stirthepot

Looking over Virginia Tech's future schedules, they sure seem to be playing many Big 10 schools. Penn State, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Maryland, and Purdue remain after the Michigan cancellation. Recently played Ohio State as well.

Proximity I suppose. Deep South programs are even farther away. They did play Tennessee. I wouldn't read too much into it, but they would be a good fit for either the SEC or Big 10, but proximity wise probably better off in the Big 10 should they ever leave the ACC, which I doubt they do.

Average price of a ticket to that game should be around $75, meaning Michigan will gross $7.5 million from ticket sales for the game. As a guess, they'll park 10,000 cars at an average of $50 per, that's another $500,000. If they gross an average of $10 per fan from concessions, that's another $1 million. That's an estimated game-day gross of $9 million. If they have $1 million in overhead for the game, that still leaves over $6 million in net profit, just for one home football game, even after paying $1.8 million to Arkansas State.

Sadly, the finances of college blue bloods make it more profitable to play two pay-games in back to years rather than scheduling a home and home with a marquee opponent and only reaping the profits of one game.
