Tired of reading in the sports section: "USM pen blows a 7-2 lead/5-0 lead/8-2 lead as Eagles lose another heartbreaker"..

hayell, it ain't surprising any more, just expected..

it's just not that hard to figure out why....

no fk'n way we we win yesterday or lose this today.....both should be 'locked and loaded'.....

I keep trying to point out how critical it is to have a fk'n closer worth his salt.....

we easily lose 10 more before the end of the year due to that....

Nah. We won 2/3 in the weekend series. You don’t drop far if you do that.

Agree with you on everything else. Bullpen gives up 15 runs in 15.2 innings this week. And that was with three games against a bad offense. Powers and Powell have been solid but not going far into games. Bullpen was not strong last year but the starters went deep into games and we could use Sandlin flexibly.

Would also add that the offense was not particularly good this entire week, aside from one inning in Oxford. Sounds crazy to say on a weekend where you score 26 runs but we get 27 walks and HBPs, 7 wild pitches, and 6 errors (which doesn’t count misplayed fly balls). In the Friday game, we get 2 runs scored on 2-out errors and also 6 straight walks in the big inning. 3 score on a 2-out error yesterday. Another two-out error scores one and opens the door for a big inning (not including a misplayed flyball that leads to another).

Team really struggled with runners in scoring position the last two games.

We have converted 5 out of 13 save situations this year.
Last year, they converted 14 of 22
2016: 20 of 26
2015: 15 of 20.

At this point, I think this group may give them a run as we get further along.

With the new ball a few years ago, the offense has jumped but nowhere near where it was pre-BBCOR. You still can’t compare the stats. If you had a 4.50 team ERA, you were one of the better staffs in the country.

That team had two reliable starters that could go deep into games. (I’m not quite ready to say we have two reliable guys and at this point, they definitely can’t go deep into games).

This bullpen won’t be the tire fire that that bullpen was in terms of just bad pitchers. But it is going to get exposed more than that one. And it doesn’t have the one guy it can count on like Cargill, who was amazing that year. I would trade four of our average relievers for three bad pitchers and Cargill in a heartbeat.

completely agree.....there really isn't any other way to view our relief situation....

not having a 2 inning closer is simply going to cost us more games down the road....you gotta have that guy....more than one would be icing, but ya gotta have one you can count on.....unless you make Wallner the DH and commit to that concept, I don't see an out....and there's no way Berry pulls that trigger....

bullpen sucessfully lost two games this week, almost managed three.

They are a total dumpster fire. If our starters don't go at least 7 or 8 innings, all bets are off.

And to the 2010 comparison, their starters could do that. We had weekends where McInnis and Copeland both threw 7-8 each and could get the ball to Cargill—or another guy to throw one inning to get it to Cargill.

This team:
1. Doesn’t have a Cargill
2. Starters can’t throw deep into games. Even with Sandlin, his pitch count will get elevated from K’s and he will have some good outings where he can’t finish 6.

Another thing that killed us on the saturday and sunday games was the fact that 12 of Rice's 14 runs happened after there were 2 outs. 11 of those 12 two out runs happened in the 8th inning of the saturday/sunday games....6 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday

Yup exactly. There isn't a single guy we can turn to that can get us out of a jam. Like was said.....most of the time we needed to get 1 ******* out and couldn't do it.

None of them have any command of their pitches.
