RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons
What a fantastic season.
28-6 - best record ever
Big OOC wins
Co-Champions Regular Season
Conference Tourny Champion
#12 NCAA Tourny bid (a bit if respect with seeding)
??? An NCAA Tourny win ???

God has blessed us more than we deserve.
I hope we honor him in what we do and say.

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons
Play of Baxter-Bell started it all.

Homsley gets the deserved credit for his level of play in taking charges, 3 point shooting and playing his best when the lights were the brightest. His best game as a Flame and he deserves the accolades.

But the play of Baxter-Bell was the determining factor for me. Prior to his insertion in the lineup, Scottie was smothered by MSU. MSU's game plan was to obviously contain Scottie and it worked. Scottie had less than an average game for him due to the emphasis from MSU. I expect him to play a better game against VT.

But Baxter-Bell stepped up. He rose to the challenge. His big-body hustle was inspirational to the team. He simply wanted "it" more than the MSU players. Banging inside, utilizing his large frame to keep MSU's bigs from taking space down low, and being aggressive driving to the basket, and even in his impactful block towards the end, brought energy needed by LU. Without his inspirational and on-court play, LU would be watching rather than playing VT.

Baxter Bell has been the guy to get it done when we are playing teams with good bigs play. Scottie is great with smaller faster teams. Bell is better against bigger stronger/slower teams. The real mvp is Coach McKay for making the change for a large portion of the game.

McKay did a great job with his game management. But I gotta give kudos to Baxter Bell and his scrappy, inspirational play.

CONGRATS Coach McKay on your contract extension and your National Coach of the Year award. Both were deserved.

It was good to see that contract extension for sure.

The bar was set so high this season, I hope I’m not disappointed next year if we can’t equal the output but still have a good year.

What do you mean by ‘set so high?’ From coach’s mouth, no one thought we’d reach the length that we did although the team knew it could happen. We had no support from outsiders because Lipscomb was suppose to win it all. Now for next season, there are high expectations. If they focus the way they did this past season, then they should repeat and even make it to the Sweet 16. We have most players returning and some good athletic prospects coming in. I will also add the players who were on redshirt as well. There’s great things ahead for our program!!

RE: 2018-19 Basketball Seasons
I hope we stay focused next season. We should be even better. I hope we make a schedule that is more appropriate for a good mid-major and not one like we have previously had. No more non-Division I schools. Do enough to earn an at-large to the NCAA tournament but win the conference tournament anyways. Lipscomb should be down compared to this year. Will anyone else rise up to replace them?

What do you mean by ‘set so high?’

It will be tough to surpass these achievements...
- 29 wins
- Regular season Conference Championship
- Conference Tournament Championship
- NCAA Tourny Bid
- NCAA Tourny win
- National Coach of the Year
- Win over one of the histotically Top Tier college teams (UCLA)

It was such a great season.

Liberty can outright win the conference regular season next year while earning a higher seed in the NCAA tournament, and winning more games.

By the way, when did McKay win the National Coach of the Year? Chris Beard (Texas Tech) won the AP Coach of the Year award and the Naismith was not announced yet that I've seen.

He won the Jim Phelan Award.
