NIU would spank Purdue.

We used to be able to do that, but I don't believe so anymore.

I wish we had a chance to find out. This year's OOC opponents are much more formidable.

I don't know what the schedules are of the schools he is interested in, but, is it a step up? I don't see it. So, good move? head scratcher. Reason for the move? wanting to "get the bad taste out" and other "locker room stuff"??? That's what draws my attention.

Unless a player is locked in to a starting position at some nationally recognized program, a fifth year senior should not be leaving us. Unless there is more to it than football. (personalities is something other than football.)

Carey should not be losing players to Purdue or Baylor etc. If the team was horrible, that would be one thing. But if we have a better than decent team and a tough schedule coming up--- what are you gaining by leaving for one year to another mid-level program???

As you mentioned, there may be other things involved that we are not privy to. It could simply be that he wants to be closer to home. Or, he views his choices as better teams with better opportunities to get to the NFL. Or, there are issues with NIU and/or the MAC. We just don't know other than what he says.

I was being more sarcastic toward the cold weather in the area. Best wishes to JJ. Move on and next man up.

Better exposure & better coaching. Still think his 1st round dreams could happen at NIU but can’t totally knock this move if it works.

My guess is he won’t have an easy time seeing the field there and when it’s all said and done would have had a better opportunity if he stayed.

Yep....even if you are the best guy doesn't mean you always play. Dont believe he is 1st or 2nd round talent. Is he big enough?

Agreed. Wish him luck but he would for sure get a tremendous amount of exposure playing Utah, Iowa, and FSU if he stayed. There has to be value staying in the same system and not having to learn a new one. I understand wanting to stay close to home but your final year? The more I look into it, the more it seems like he’s all about himself getting into the NFL (don’t blame him) and not so much about winning as a team. Would love to know the whole story one day. Bailing on his NIU teammates when they have a huge opportunity to make some noise this year....

That's a good spot to land, hope he does well.

I agree with the thoughts on the benefits of staying in the system, but it's his choice, did it the right way and earned it, playing for TCU is pretty cool, I'm sure for him being from Texas, and they've put lots of talents into the NFL.

If he starts, which he will have a good shot of starting. The Big 12 schedule is much more stacked then our MAC Schedule. Lol

2018 TCU Football Schedule

Sept. 15 -- vs. Ohio State^
Sept. 22 -- at Texas*
Sept. 29 -- Iowa State*
Oct. 11 -- Texas Tech*
Oct. 20 -- Oklahoma*
Oct. 27 -- at Kansas*
Nov. 3 -- Kansas State*
Nov. 10 -- at West Virginia*
Nov. 17 -- at Baylor*
Nov. 24 -- Oklahoma State*
Dec. 1 -- Big 12 Championship Game^

Of course the Big12 has a better schedule. I was making the point that he won’t be playing the sisters of the poor or Presbyterian this year if he was at NIU. If you play well against the Iowa’s and FSU’s and then dominate the MAC he would for sure be on everyone’s radar.

Wouldn’t it be funny if we have a great year and get them in a Bowl game?

TCU would win by 40. Carey’s fake FG attempt on the opening drive is returned for a Pick-6.

Yep. And somehow the game would be played in San Diego.
