I still think him leaving at this point is stupid, but what are you going to do? You gotta have thicker skin than that to make it. Yes the MAC is lame, but leaving your team is Weak Sauce....

Good Luck? http://www.daily-chronicle.com/lists/201...xml?page=1

It's odd, but he's graduating and has earned the right to move elsewhere.

I don't have a problem with him making a personal decision. But I hope he realizes having Sutton in front of him helped quite a bit. He will be lucky to have such an impact player to line up behind at either of the schools he chooses.

He's got to be locked in at SMU. This will be my last post about him....just like Kenny Battle....he will not be remembered as an NIU Huskie. This won't end well for him imo, he was a very good player for one year but most of all he needs an ego check.

Quote:Johnson is exploring graduate transfer options close to home near the Dallas, Texas area. He’s sent out his release to Baylor, Southern Methodist and Texas Christian.

Criticizing this decision seems misguided. I hope he continues his education in Texas, gets a shot at the NFL, and settles into a responsible lifestyle guided by his NIU education, his time in DeKalb, and all the confidence and discipline instilled by being a Huskie that will assist in living a long and prosperous life.

I wonder if Kenny Battle would have left if John McDougal was not fired. I thought that was the story on campus that he would not have left if there was not a coaching change. Going to U of I was a step up. Wish Johnson well but next man up. Onward and forward.

The word has always been that Battle would not have left NIU if McDougal had stayed. I believe that to be true & I always found it frustrating that he could not keep his job until Battle was done. Battle was simply electric & next to Jordan Lynch the most exciting athlete I have seen at NIU

Kenny Battle never would have transferred. John McDougal was the reason he had come to NIU. McDougal had been the long-time coach at Aurora West, which was Battle's high school, before coming to DeKalb.

Kudos to him for doing what he believes is best for his life.

Bonus points for getting away from Rod Carey.

The field house was rocking when Ron Harper came in with Miami of OH to play against Battle and NIU

What game was it that he did his 360 dunk that they show on the opening highlights of basketball games at the convo?
Every time I see it I get so pumped!!

To be fair though, Carey's staff brought him here and developed him into a stud linebacker. Big loss for us. Hopefully he still has love for the program if he makes it in the NFL.

Some loyalty.......He stated that part of the reason he left was he was upset with the MAC for not voting him first team all conference due to politics. Also I gathered and am speculating that he felt overshadowed by other players such as Sutton Smith who is getting a lot of NFL attention. Now most individuals would use these things as motivation to top their previous season and prove everyone wrong. Not JJ though.... He Would rather run from these “problems” and transfer out

Anyone playing alongside Sutton will benefit greatly due to the amount of NFL scouts he will attract. Which is why I think it’s a dumb decision to leave. Not all decisions and logical.

2nd year in a row we lose a guy. Last year we lost an OG Shane Evans who starts for Purdue. Hopefully NOT a trend.

Do I wish him the best? Yes

"Kudos to him" - ABSOLUTELY NOT. We recruited him, believed him, grew him, developed him and he bailed. Don't let the door hit you, where the good Lord split you!!! 03-nutkick

Evans was never a starter and wasn't anticipated to be the starter.
