The irony in this post is amazing!

Uh huh. We’ve been good in the 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s. We’ll be good again; it’s only a matter of time. Too much talent in the city for us to be down for very long. Denial is tough. I bet you’ll have buddies that are still in denial when the results play out in our favor.

WSU is use to smacking us around. There are good reasons to believe the Tigers will be more competitive against WSU next season, but it is unproven at this juncture.

I’m not necessarily talking about next year (although I expect our games to be much more competitive). I’m moreso touching on the insecurities of our new conference mates as you can tell they are a little uncomfortable with the step up in competition. If your team is gonna be good, it shouldn’t matter what we do. However, if you’re concerned about the moves that other teams in the league are making and you’re concerned that you might not be as good as you once were, you start coming up with a million reasons under the sun as to why you’re still gonna be relevant.

I see Memphis coming back and sitting at the top most years. Cincy, UConn will challenge. WSU and SMU will have some say.

AJ Lawson on Tulane campus today. He better have this article served with his breakfast!

Melvin Frazier hopes unique path can lead to historic night at NBA Draft

Quote:"The people that I've been around really took pride in (defense)," Frazier said. "That's something I was always taught."
His defensive talents turned the former Tulane forward into one of the American Athletic Conference's top players last season, allowing him to forego his senior season and enter the 2018 NBA Draft, which will be held on June 21.
Frazier quickly rose up draft boards following his impressive showing in May's NBA Draft Combine, where he dazzled scouts with his physical tools and basketball IQ. He even nabbed a steal on one play during a scrimmage and threw down a windmill dunk in transition, giving a quick glimpse into the type of player he could grow to become one day.
As a result, many draft analysts have projected him to become the first Tulane basketball player ever selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. If it does happen, it would be an unbelievable accomplishment for Frazier considering there were several points along the way he thought that day would never arrive...

Frazier always believed he had the potential to play professionally, but hearing it from someone that had 17 years of NBA coaching experience made his dreams an attainable reality. That's when the work began.

Right after reading that, he can read that SMU has put 4 players on NBA rosters the last 2 years, and have another 5+ getting paid to play basketball over the last 4-5 years.

He'll probably start right away at Tulane. Maybe not so at SMU.

okay, that won't happen ...
too many good coaches in the AAC...

even if memphis came back to being good, the premise that they'll be on top most years is questionable at best

you are basing this off recruitment hype, for kids that havent even committed yet..not even on the coaching ability, that we have yet to see.
memphis is projected to bring in the #1 or #2 for 19 but thats becuase they have strong ties to those recruits, after their 1 and done season those ties with the elites will drastically diminish in 2020 onwards

i dont think any team will dominate the aac...if i had to pick one it would uconn..their coach is somewhat proven, and if you look at the crystall ball predictions, uconn isn't hyping it up like memphis, but uconn is projected a top 10/15 class and hurley didnt come in with any recruit ties so, he will likely be able to sustain that level of recruiting

RE: AAC basketball news thread
Hurley is giving jalen the tough love he needs be a kemba like guard and Get drafted.

“He pretty much told me how special I could be — if I worked,” Adams said, after the Huskies’ workout last Friday. “He pretty much kept it honest with me. All my life, I’ve cheated and took the easy way. That’s what got me in the position I’m in now. He just told me, one year of work, doing all the things that I didn’t commit myself to, could change my life forever. Once he said that, it kind of stuck with me.”

It was just by tough love, right off the rip,” Adams said. “It was like blind trust. I had to believe that what he was telling me was the right thing, and it’s been working so far. It’s been good, getting my body in better shape and everything he says. It’s tough at the time, but the little things he has us doing is different for me, but it’s stuff I want to try out.”

“Every single day that he steps on the court,” Hurley said, “people that come to Connecticut should walk out of here saying, ‘that’s one of the best guards in the country.’ And if they’re not saying that after a workout, then you failed. Just getting him to understand that a great player plays every possession, both ends of the court. All day long, competes at the highest level, his game is always razor sharp, his team is always winning. So my standard for him every day is, he should dominate practice. Every time we have visitors here, media, coaches, recruits on unofficial visits, anyone, they better walk out of here saying, ‘that Jalen Adams, that’s a different guy.’”

lawson is starting at smu, tulane, oregon, creighton

he is a top 50 recruit...i just watched him in the fibaworld u18 championships where he lead canada to the final doing 18 a game
his game needs some polishing here and there to be put with elite of the elites, but if he improves throughout the season, he will be a 1 and done

none of us are kentucky, he is starting at most schools looking at him

Meant to add Houston in with SMU and WSU. Memphis has a great facility, great recruiting base, fan base that loves basketball. If Penny is an above average coach they'll be a fixture in the Top 15.

Yep. He will be promised to start by all 4 schools. Kid is a special talent and likely one-done. I don't think he ends up at Tulane or SMU. My guess would be Oregon. You never know though.

the same could be said about uconn...im not denying the memphis potential....im saying your denying the other aac teams potential...

uconn isnt making it a hoopla/media circus like memphis but uconn is projected to pull some talent themselves (hint: memphis might not be the only team bringing in a top 10 recruit next season)

I agree with your list of UConn, Memphis, Houston, SMU, and WSU. Hopefully UCF will keep it up along with Tulsa, and Temple will get out of the rut it seems stuck in. Tulane keeps improving and ECU has a new coach. USF, I dunno.

Overall, looks like AAC bball will be a hard-nosed competitive conference at the top and in much of the middle.

UConn plays in a dump downtown and Gampel is small and hard to get to. They need a new arena downtown for some of the national games. UConn more so than other AAC teams is relient on playing really good OOC opponents. UConn fans were spoiled with great teams coming in under the old Big East. Attendance doesn't lie. Winning and who you play are important.

This .. this is a GOOD basketball league that has only gotten stronger with the moves of the last 2 years. (Adding WSU, Hurley to UConn, Penny to Memphis, and even Dooley to ECU). There is a LOT of proven coaching talent in this league. Then throw in Memphis which is the wildcard because they are going to get Talent .. just need to do something with it.
