Congrats to Coach K & his family. They seem to be all-in for Toledo and I love that. I hope he’s the one who takes us to the promise land, but sooner rather than later. Can’t believe I’ve never seen my Rockets in the big dance, that needs to change ASAP.

I was listening to the radio on the way to work today and one of the local Rock Stations said UT men's basketball coach "Ted" Kowalczyk received a contract extension. Really ?

What is his name? Probably should be glad any media reporting University news at all.

On a related note, Rob Murphy at EMU has a clause in his contract that gives him an automatic 1 year extension if he wins 20 games. I don't know if Coach K has any clauses in his contract like that, but some coaches do.

I wish UT would do that for FB and BB. Say in football 10 wins and/or MAC Championship, BB could be 20+ wins and/or MAC championship, gets you an automatic 1-2 year extension with a raise. This automatically reward winning.

A couple things to points out (if I am understanding them correctly, which no guarantee I am)...

1 - The original contract, and almost every amendment, says, "The term will automatically extend for an additional two years on March 31, 20__ (2 years before the contract expire)..." Unless I'm missing it, I don't see any stipulations on this??? So he will always have at least 2+ years left on his contract since they add that every time his contract is extended?

2 - it looks like TK has no buyout if he decides to leave? The last mention of a buyout is from the amendment signed 5/14/12 (page 18 of the pdf), and states TK would owe $280k if he left before 3/15/14, $175k if he left between 3/16/14 and 3/15/15, and $0 is he leaves after 3/15/15. Well, it's after 3/15/15, so would he owe $0 if he leaves on his own???
