He did the same thing to Tubby...He is clearly a troll.

How can you hate Tubby and Penny...If he does it seems like he hates MEMPHIS.

I didn’t give Tubby a hard time. Just think Penny should be held to the same standards as far as performance, recruiting, and retention of players. I’d expect that from any Memphis coach.

You are hilarious. You were willing to give Tubby 3 years to maybe make the tournament, completely make excuses for every one of his fails for 2 years, and now 10 minutes after Penny getting the job, you are going into your usual hysterics the other way.

Funny stuff. So now it’s ok to compete for UNC Asheville and Tulane for recruits? Lol

Tubby has a history of recruiting down. Penny may see a diamond in the rough

But you objected when I did that with Tubby. Constantly arguing with me about my disappointment about Tubby's lazy recruiting in 2016, the JUCO's in 2017, and the nothing much of 2018.

Not to mention the transfers.

It's pretty clear this year Tubbs was going to lose Nickel and probably Enoh. Davenport was reported as looking to leave, too.

Not only would that have messed up what was going to be Tubby's "best" season (NIT likely) it would have meant that only one recruit in his first two season would still be on the roster after year two.

Anyone being honest knows, right now, there aren't a lot of top 100 2018 kids out there. So, to expect ANY coach to roll in and grab a top 100 kid now is silly.

What Penny can do, this year, is figure out what he has returning (which is still up in the air) and try to supplement the roster with players that will add to the value of this team.

What Memphis desperately needs going into 2018:

1) A PG for the future
2) Shooters who can make shots
3) An athletic 3 who can guard the wings
4) A young c/pf who can play behind Parks and be allowed to get learning minutes this year while growing into a bigger role the next couple years

Just being consistent. It’s the current coaches responsibility to retain talent. I really have no issue with Nickelberry leaving. Other than Azab and Rhodes, he was probably the most expendable.

We need a PG and will sign Lomax. That’s a good commit for sure.

We need shooters obviously since we were just awful last year and decent 3 point shooting could have made the difference in several games. Recruiting guys with offers from Asheville and Tulane aren’t good options. Take a flyer on one of the grad transfers or JUCO. At least you’re not wasting a four year scholarship. Think Matt Stanley...

We need another big. Parks is very serviceable, but does get into foul trouble. Plus you need more than one on the roster.

By the way, I think Penny was a good hire and Tubby is better off at High Point. But expectations are expectations. Gotta get good players and win games. In the end, that’s what matters...

Give it a minute bro.. he's been on the job about a week.

I’m giving it a minute. That’s why I’d rather not sign inferior talent for 4 years. 2019 is loaded, nothing wrong with grad transfers to get you through next year. Just don’t sign filler guys for four years..

You have 3 open scholarships after you add A Lo, next year you will have 6 scholarships. I don't think adding any "filler" players would totally kill anything

I'm surprised you served 20 years in the military based on your responses on this board, I figured that would "mature" your communication skills a bit. Regardless, thank you for your service.

I just expect consistency and accountability. I don’t care who it is. Penny’s done some great things and deserves cudos. If he recruits low end players, he deserves criticism too.

I think it’s a great hire.

He's Memphis good, just doesn't want to be pushed in practice for pt. It's a shame, the young man wanted to be a Tiger, evidently just doesn't like the idea of sharing time and playing as hard as possible for 4-5 game minute spurts. The practice time with Lomax would have served to make them both all the better, as well as the team. The two would have made a formidable, but short and fast backcourt. Maybe he will have a change of heart.

I would honestly rather keep Jamal Johnson at this point over recruiting Tyler. Obviously, you would want both, but that's not really a reality at this point. Jamal is the kind of guy to be three and D guy. Not afraid of anyone, and great at rebounding. If he can just work his release time, I think he has the potential to be a pure shooter.

I know everyone is curious about the assistants and they should be, but the DOBO and whoever is in charge of player development will be the keys to success. Hopefully they can be as good as whoever Bill Self has at Kansas.

Doing pretty well son. Can’t complain at all. Loved serving my country, despite people like you...

Thanks. Most of the lifers were drunks and ruined the military when I was in back in the 70's.

As I said, I loved serving my country, even hateful souls like yourself. Thanks for your service.

Ever shoot anybody?

Or give them the ole grenade?
