2018 Spring Roster is up
Besides wanting to move closer to home, JJ felt under-appreciated after 2017 season: "The MAC did some political things & I know damn well I was better than those guys ahead of me. It’s time for me to do what I do without the MAC."

Full story on his decision coming tomorrow.

Jawuan is going to be a stud where ever he lands. He is a heck of player and I look forward to watching him on Sundays in a little over a year.

There’s no guarantee that he will start at any of those schools.

I'd forgotten he was from Texas since his bio said E.St Louis. Don't blame him for wanting what's best for his future or wanting to play closer to home. Playing for Kane at smu would be interesting choice. I still think he could get more recognition here. Makes me wonder about defensive changes. I hate that the MAC screwed him out of some accolades and that factored into his decision. I know I'm not alone in thinking the MAC has a bias against niu.

Absolutely. The Ohio conference continues to do its thing. I hate the MAC with a passion.

RE: 2018 Spring Roster is up
No brainer for him to move back closer to home and to potentially play in a system that exposes him to many more eyes playing on a Saturday instead of a weekday.

I see there are plenty of older men in here who think they know the best decision for Juwuan. None of us know what is going on inside of his head or in his personal life to make that judgment.

Also, it appears that he is quite upset still about the All-Mac teams, which I do not blame him based on his performance this past season.

Head coaches vote on the All-Mac teams, not the conference.

Check the schedules of either of the three teams. Tcu and Baylor have Big12 scheduled of course. Tcu has better OOC schedule playing Ohio state. Tcu also plays smu. Smu schedule includes Michigan and tcu. American conference has more recognized teams playing Memphis, Cincinnati, UCF etc. playing for Kane close to home would really be appealing.

RE: 2018 Spring Roster is up
Bummer. With him and Pugh it would have been a nice LB corps. If we lose any more we'll have a LB corpse.

Also, if he has NFL aspirations, in the big picture a couple MAC accolades don't matter much - we NIU fans know how good he was. And those are guessing games anyway. And he'd have just as good a chance at the NFL coming from NIU, especially with our schedule this year. I mean, Jimmy Ward and Golladay both went in early rounds.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet my next paycheck that he goes to SMU.

JJ should change his mind so he can play the strongest non-conference schedule in Huskie Football history....

The MAC has had the #1 overall pick and last year the #4 or 5 pick. If you're good enough the NFL will find you.

Yea and the NFL has a much better idea of who is good than the MAC does - no matter where he plays.

I would think he goes to SMU, but he also sent his release to Baylor and TCU. If he really wants to win and show the NFL how good he is, TCU is probably the best choice.

RE: 2018 Spring Roster is up
ESPN ran an article about impact transfers for next season and this is what they had to say about JJ:

Jawuan Johnson, LB, TCU: Don't be surprised if Johnson is one of the more important defensive transfers for 2018. He had a breakout season last fall for Northern Illinois, recording five interceptions, five forced fumbles and 18 tackles for loss, as well as 98 total tackles. TCU loses leading tackler Travin Howard, and Johnson, who also drew interest from Alabama, should fit in very well.

I still think his decision to leave is short sited. Is he afraid that he can’t share the spotlight with Sutton Smith? Sutton is already getting a First Round grade and he doesn’t have to transfer to get noticed. Huskies will have a tons of scouts attention and a great schedule coming up. If you want to go in the first round..... Go Big against Florida State, Utah, Iowa, BYU(Heck that’s what Jimmie Ward did).If he wanted to transfer, last year would been the year to do it. Not this one.03-banghead

Probably not. The scouts will argue that he did it against MAC teams. Now if he puts up the same numbers in the Big12, that will help his draft stock.
