As an SMU outsider this news is a bit of a surprise (especially considering his injury), but I guess if you have nothing to lose by testing the waters then you might as well dip your foot in.

You can declare twice for the NBA, so anyone that thinks they have a chance in the next 2 years should do it ... It's free feedback.

I was trying to remember what the rule was. You can declare twice without leaving, or you can declare twice and have to go the second time?

I think i read something about this ... There is actually a conflict between NBA rules and NCAA rules here

The NCAA will allow you to declare twice and withdraw. NBA Rules say once only. BUT basically as long you submit your intent to withdraw by the deadline, the NCAA will accept it but the NBA will decline it so you would be still be NCAA eligible. I have no idea what the penalty from the NBA would be though.

I'll see if I can find the article about it.

EDIT: Found it ... http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/22854...ted-sounds

Techincally you can declare 3 times. The NBA won't all you to withdraw the third time but the NCAA will accept the withdraw notice and remain eligible. BUT that person would still be eligible to be drafted, so if they didn't hire an agent and went undrafted, they could return to college and be eligible even though they are an undrafted free agent.

Most people will just stick to the 2 times rules though.
