NIU did get commits from Mitchell and Wright. Probably a legit JUCO or Grad Transfer should have been brought in just to improve depth.

Well Childers literally can’t throw so I can’t imagine our WRs being big fans of his. From what I’ve seen Hall isn’t a very polished passer at this point yet either so that doesn’t surprise me at all.

Can't rely on incoming frosh for the most important position. He needs to still go after a JUCO / Grad transfer now.

Carey said Graham isn't fully cleared for all throws and motion, and Childers is the starter. The other two have made some good improvements as well. I'm not convinced we'll have a solid offense, but our D should still be stout.

yup, obviously a decision on Childers's future hasn't been made yet so Carey would have to stay status quo until there is

This board may not like it, but give Carey, his staff and the administration credit for keeping “issues” under wraps. Granted, NIU flys under the radar, but the media that covers the team rarely pushes for answers. There are so many questions that continue to go unanswered. The QB situation was incredibly confusing last season, and it appears to be headed in a worse direction this season. People seem to hear things yet few seem to understand things, and the staff does little to clear the confusion.

He's a grad transfer. So he's eligible right away. And has 2 years of playing time left. But I'd bet Nebraska gives him a good look.

I was hoping that I underestimated him and that perhaps we had someone on the coaching staff that could help him improve his passing game. Hopefully this is something that he can get past and then he can win or lose the starting position through his efforts in Spring and fall practice sessions.

Following Harnish and Lynch you would have thought that NIU could do a better job recruiting QBs. I keep wondering if we just do not have anyone that can help develop the guys after they have signed. It is either that or Carey's staff just cannot evaluate talent and recruit good QBs.

This upcoming season could be an ugly one if they cannot figure this out.

The issue is that NIU hasn't had anyone take ownership at QB because of injury, transfer, and off-field actions. While playing six different guy behind center, NIU is still 21-18 (17-7) the past three seasons. That's remarkable considering the circumstances, and I would say that shows 'depth'.

Look at Ball State last year after losing Riley Neal (0-9). Look at Western Michigan after losing Wassink (1-3). Heck, look at the entire season Florida State had after losing Deondre Francois. Teams are not going to have high-caliber QB's throughout their depth chart (Nick Saban and Alabama are a unicorn). I'm sure NIU's struggle at QB has been created from a combination of factors, but they really just haven't caught a break. We'll see what happens this year and what kind of drive/motivation the players in the QB room have.

Don't forget Drew Hare. Everybody forgets about Drew - the kid was a stud that faced unfortunate injuries his last two years.
