I feel bad for the MAC. They are quite the outlier in the G5 discussions because they don't seem to have a 'rival' conference.
CUSA/Sunbelt fans diss each other as well as the MW/AAC.

The MAC has nobody and it seems like they don't exist.

I don't feel like not having the Sunbelt or CUSA as a rival is a problem.

I don't really care to be honest, though one could argue that many MAC fans hold the Big Ten in higher disdain than the C-USA/Belt against the SEC or ACC as a byproduct of this. Had the Missouri Valley managed to stay in DI-A you'd likely have a similar phenomenon.

I kind of feel bad for the MWC and the PAC because the rest of the country doesn't stay up to watch their games. On the other hand if you live on the west coast you can watch football while eating breakfast, so that's nice.

RE: I feel bad about the MAC...
The MAC is also a very stable conference whose conference members don't have to ask the question "who the hell exactly did we invite into our conference now?" every year.

It's a competitive conference that is what it is - a regional, "tier-below B1G but tier-above FCS" conference centered in the Great Lakes region.

Which is fine.

That is the thing with the MAC. As much as us MAC fans complain, we are very stable that has the best cover of any G5 Conference: Big Brother B1G

The MAC doesn't have that same level of competition with other conferences because they are stable, they have a brand and they don't have any insecurities with regards to other G5 conferences. They are a collection of schools that are like-minded institutions with similar athletic programs. No one is looking to jump ship or throw other conference-mates under the bus in order to elevate their status.

I think the MAC is in a great spot. Their membership is stable, no one is looking to leave. Sure none of their members are media darlings or in the conversation for a P5 slot but they know who they are and they are comfortable with that.

They didn't over-expand (C-USA)
They aren't the gateway to FBS (SBC)
They aren't relegated to late night time slots (MWC)
Half their league isn't wishing they were somewhere else (AAC)

MAC is amazing if you live in Ohio and refuse to follow P5’s. Whenever I drive through Ohio on fall saturday’s, there’s MAC radio talkshows (Toledo hosts a great one). MAC is an amazing conference to go on a 3-5 hour roadtrip on beautiful Sept/Oct Saturday’s. One of my favorite things and it’ll never get old. I’ve done double headers on the same day (last year first half of Akron/Toledo and then all of NIU/BGSU - just a 25 minute drive). Also perfect weather for NIU/CMU on Black Friday last year. Unforgettable trips.

It sucks for hoops though.

I feel bad for the members of C-USA and the SBC who are caught in a bunch of internal politics and dumb NCAA rules that won't permit them to reorganize in a rational way.

I just wish there was someway for Marshall to come back. They were unique, good, and fit in geographically. It’ll never happen though.

It's too bad that the playoff revenue distribution model favors small leagues. I would have loved to see the MAC go to 16 with a southern wing with Marshall, WKU, MTSU, and ODU.

I'm sure it's not but I'm also pretty sure as an ODU fan you would rather have regular conference games with JMU, App St, GA St, and GA Southern than the 4 Texas schools from C-USA.

It's too bad that the warts of the SBC--Coastal Carolina, ULM, UALR, UTA prevent a membership swap.

The MAC is the perfect G5 conference. 12 like-minded public schools with a relatively tight footprint.

The MAC has nobody and it seems like they don't exist.

We are judging ourselves these days against the MWC.

Both conferences have members that have either been in FBS since its inception or at least for 20 years. Both have 12 members and have a few BCS busters among their ranks. MAC has EMU with attendance problems and the MWC has SJSU.

If anything maybe there is some MAC/AAC smack. AAC fans laugh at the MAC as feeble while the MAC laughs at the AAC's spending.

But you are right the MAC is not well understood outside of its region. Its not understood they are considered major public schools for their states. They are not OVC level schools that happen to have FBS football as some think. Different regional dynamics in the Midwest with the B1G these giant size schools that seem like zoos to a lot of people.

SEC has some larger schools but then some more MAC like college towns in it so there are some that want an Arkansas or Ole Miss environment instead of a TAMU or LSU environment. If you want to something smaller in B1G country you'll need to go to a Miami or a CMU because all the B1G's are super huge.

#Funbelt > #MACtion

After App State won its fourth game in three years against MAC teams, all from the state of Ohio.

That sign came like the day after our crazy “MAC > AAC” poster on the NIU board got banned. I would have died to seen his reaction to that.
