Great post, thank you!
Sure wish the players on the video had stood when shaking his hand. You should ALWAYS stand when shaking another man's hand.

I agree, especially if shaking Penny's hand. Kids these days don't understand good etiquette.

Maybe it's a generational thing. I remember the video of Tubby shaking the players' hands when he first met with the team after being hired and all the guys just sat there as well.

You're telling me Penny had never been in the facility before? That is strange to me.

I remember that as well and was thinking "Why aren't they standing?".
They are at UofM to learn....should be on the syllabus. Nothing wrong with teaching etiquette here and there regardless what your major is.

Kids this day and time have not been taught respect.

RE: Video: Penny's 1st day on the job
hand shake etiquette tip #2:
If you are sitting, rise before extending your hand. This shows respect and puts you on the same level as the other person. Make eye contact and offer a sincere smile to show that you are happy to be where you are.
Be still and face the other person to prevent giving the impression that you are in a hurry to get away. If you are walking, try to stop, turn, and face the other person, unless it creates an awkward situation. If you weren't taught it, learn it now.

Seems like common sense. For one thing, who wants to be looking up to someone, as if you were a little kid. Which reminds me, sometimes when I shake hands with a kid, I go down to his/her level, even. lol
There is also a little head bow one can do...but I reckon that's not Southern. lol
