RE: Eastern Michigan dropping four sports
There are things not being said because they're considered too sensitive.

Football brings a cultural element to the campus, that otherwise might not be there. It teaches many students on campus the virtues of adjustment, patience, and acclimation to see through the lines of big bodies mandated by coach to sit in the front row of the lecture room.

They have beautiful and modern facilities, but, no one goes to the games. The problem is that all their athletic arenas, etc. are not on campus. There are no suite holders in basketball and the visitor's side in football is basically a ghost town. They cannot possibly be generating any revenue. Football tickets prices used to be $8.00 and parking was free. Now tickets are $20.00 and parking is $5.00.

And also...they have no provincial fan base since UM of 2 miles down the road. Toledo obviously has a lot of UM and OSU fans, but we still support UT as a University because of our regional independence. EMU is in a VERY tough place right now, and not just because of their athletics. Years of the no-OOS program have destroyed their operational overhead and now they're losing top administrators to greener pastures left and right.

EMU football should offer to play any BIG school in Ford Field every year. Split gate 50 50. OSU, MSU etc with big alumni would jump at the chance for an extra home game

Why would UM or MSU do that when 1. They know 98% will be their own fans. 2. Their own stadiums hold more than Ford field. 3. EMU isn't appealing when OOC SOS is important.

Why would EMU do it when 50-50 gate cash is far less than the 1.5mil they'd get for going on the actual road to MSU or UM. They have a financial disaster. Money means more than a cool environment at Ford field which will be dominated by the other schools fans.

UM and MSU would do it because they need to schedule away games. Not everyone can be Columbus St. If you can schedule them close, bonus. Good points on the reasons for EMU though. Why would they?

No P5 school the level of UM or MSU is getting a pat on the back for playing EMU at Ford field. It's a neutral site game which they will be a 3 or 4 TD favorite. That's not boosting you into the playoffs.... Now SDSU or Toledo or FAU or Troy or Boise State or USM have some clout where that appears better than an FCS school??? Then a neutral site/ road game is an SOS boost and equally as good as beating up the bottom or middle of a P5 conference.
