RE: Anfernee Simons
Wonder if he can run point. 6’4” (165lbs) is smallish for a 2 guard in the NBA. I certainly wouldn’t be taking him right out of HS, but it only takes 1 team to bite.

The G-League changes the game now. An NBA team can take him and sign him to a 2 way contract and send him to the G-League.

RE: Anfernee Simons
If you’re Anfernee, would you rather be in the G league on a two way or a college player with the likelihood of playing into the lottery the following year
I guess that’s Penny’s pitch too. Stay a year. Let me help you work on your game and you will move from late first round to lottery

If your Anfernee would you rather be making money now this year and start gaining some NBA experience or go to college?

RE: Anfernee Simons
It’s not really about what he wants unless he’s cool with being a 2nd rounder. Otherwise it has everything to do with whether or not an NBA team is willing to take a shot on him in the first round.

All 1st round picks have guaranteed 2-year contracts, with team options in years 3 & 4, so they cannot be 2-way players.

Those crowds in Fort Wayne, Des Moines and Canton are sooo hard to turn down.

SI's mock draft from a week ago had Simons going #23. 23rd pick in this year's draft will make at least $1,371,500 in year 1, and $1,627,300 in year two. (Teams usually end up paying 20% more than scale for the 1st rounders, so probably more.) This doesn't include shoe money or other deals he could sign. If Simons is drafted 23rd and plays some G-League games in Des Moines, at that salary I think he would gladly do so.

Or he could come here, improve his stock, and go in the top 10. Also this draft is loaded. As soon as he goes through the process, he's gonna drop.

That would be $3 million earned by the time he's 21 years old. (or the equivalent of making $100,000 for 30 years).
Not too shabby.

I disagree. Not playing all year, while everyone else besides Mitchell Robinson has been playing, has probably hurt his stock. Once the season ends, and the combine and other events take place, he is just as likely to rise.
No guarantee that staying an extra year improves your NBA desirability. Ivan Rabb was a projected lottery pick in '16. Stayed an extra year hoping to move up, had some flaws in his game exposed, and went 35th to the Grizz in '17.

Yep. And if Simons pans out, it gets him to his 2nd NBA contract, where he can make truly life-changing money, a year sooner. Very few projected 1st rounders turn down the opportunity.

Ft Wayne doesn’t look so bad now, does it?
