4 for 4 with the Salt Lake announcement. A nice midsize market and their first outside of the Deep South. They need to get San Diego or Phoenix to be their west coast partner/rival.

I'm pretty sure Little Charlie's plan is to get into all the good markets and get by for a year (and hopefully not run out of money) before he sells the assets of his league to Vince McMahon.

Phoenix (technically Tempe) has been confirmed. I imagine the goal is a western division - perhaps San Diego and Denver? Both have MLB to contend with though. I could see Portland or Sacramento being options as well.

My suspicion is that the other two western teams will be San Diego and San Antonio. Sacramento and Portland stadium options are undersized. The more I look at what the AAF is doing they are going after the cities that the XFL wanted. Note that all of the teams are in Red States from the 2016 election. I think Vince wanted to build a "conservative friendly" football league and Charlie didn't share the same vision and is trying to stake his flag in the places that are critical to the success of the XFL so McMahon can't have them. Charlie is a rich kid in the entertainment business and knows nothing about running a sports league. He's hoping to sell his league to the NFL as a developmental league before it goes broke.

Quote:An announcement is expected next week confirming that the Alliance of American Football will place a team in San Diego, according to a city spokesperson.

Other tidbits: Mike Martz will be the coach of that team, they plan to sell tickets for $35 each, and they hope to draw 20,000-25,000 fans per game. Presumably that last item means that the top deck of the stadium will not be open for AAF games.

This league is setting itself up in good markets for football during its months of operation. What I think they are lacking is the appeal to politically conservative fans that was one of the chief hallmarks of the xfl.

For the last 2 spots in the inaugural 8 I think San Antonio and St Louis are the way to go.

The Big Texas cities of Dallas and Houston would also be solid--Houston has at least 2 stadiums that would work and in the metroplex I count at least 4.

I hope they name this team the Bolts

Looks like the 8th AAF franchise will be in San Antonio, and Mike Riley will be the head coach there.

I think they've got a nice assortment of markets:

10 Atlanta
12 Phoenix
18 Orlando
28 San Diego
31 San Antonio
34 Salt Lake City
45 Birmingham
51 Memphis

if they can attract some good players and market correctly they could be a success.
