Baseball vs Southern Univ
The Southern University website is probably the least helpful of one I've seen in a long time. The stats page is from last year still but wasn't updated after mid April.

Based off their most recent 2 midweek games (March 6th loss at LSU 8-2; March 13th loss at UNO 8-2) I feel like they will start Jacob Snyder (SO LHP) as he started against LSU and went 2.0 IP giving up 3 hits and 1 run. He was the first one in relief last week at UNO after the starter gave up 5 runs, 5 hits, and 2 BB while not making it out of the 1st inning. Snyder pitched 2.1 innings allowing 2 hits and 0 runs. In both of those 2 recent midweek games they threw 6-7 pitchers with each usually going 1 but no more than 1.2 innings each so I feel like we'll see the same setup from them tonight. In the UNO game they gave up 5 first inning runs and 1 the rest of the game. Against LSU they made 3 errors and walked 8 in the 8-2 loss (only 3 runs were earned). In each of those 2 games the SU batters struck out 14 times each while getting 7 hits vs UNO and 5 vs LSU.

As for their weekend games they've allowed 8, 10, 12 and 19 runs to SWAC competition so something about their midweek games they seem to pitch better.

RE: Baseball vs Southern Univ
After doing some looking I found their stats on the SWAC website:

http://www.swac.org/ViewContent.dbml?DB_...ID=2144192

Just a few things that jump out as I'm not doing a full breakdown with just the 1 game being played:

Team batting: 18 games
.270 avg
108 runs (6 per game avg)
4 HR
159 K, 69 BB, 32 HBP 04-jawdrop
45-60 SB 04-jawdrop

Team pitching:
7.27 ERA
152.1 IP
171 hits
79 K, 99 BB, 32 HBP
21 HR
27-39 SB
And the few things that jump out (scream actually) is their K/BB/HBP pitching ratio as well as they've only had 8 pitchers who've pitched this year so based off previous post it appears that's their gameplan. They've got 4 who've started and they've gone 22, 25, 26 and 29 innings while the 4 relief pitchers have gone 5, 7, 8 and 9 innings. Considering they've used 6 and 7 pitchers in each of their last 2 midweek games they've got 2 of their starting pitchers coming in relief for an inning.

Question for Beagle... It says on Warren Nolan that if we win this game we only lose 3 RPI points, so really only dropping one spot. You made it sound like even playing this game would be catastrophic for our RPI. Am I missing something? Also the sad thing is we have several teams in OUR conference with a worse RPI than Southern. CUSA sucks.

Southern use to be good in baseball. By good, i mean they would win their conference and have a good record. All we need is our opponents to have good winning percentages. Doesnt matter if they play bad competition per say. Our opponent's opponents also matter though, but to a lesser extent. So nothing wrong with playing southern if they were winning 40 games. That would actually help our rpi.

Yeah, it won't hurt us as much as I thought it would. Some SWAC teams will drop your RPI like a rock even if you win.

In 2016, Northwestern State played a 2-game midweek series vs MS Valley. They were like 35 in the RPI coming into the games, won both, and dropped out of the top 50 because MVSU was so terrible. When I saw this game on the schedule, my worry was that could happen to us. If you remember in 2011, Berry cancelled a game against Alabama A&M late in the year because of a "scheduling conflict" (translation: AAMU was the worst team in D1 and we didn't want to take an RPI hit late in the year).

I don't mind 1 SWAC game a year. Would prefer to play JSU because it's an in-state school and they're a better opponent, but that's just nit-picking.

Tonight, we should be able to get ahead early and get some guys that don't play a lot some time.

The university doesn't pay jackshit for any IT personnel.

There was a network engineering position that was posted a little while back that required a freaking CCNP and the pay was like 65k. GTFOH

You get what you pay for.

RE: Baseball vs Southern Univ
FWIW and somewhat not a surprise we are starting Walker Powell. If he gets pulled early (and assuming he won't unless we get a big lead) it could add to the speculation of whether or not he is being moved to Sundays. However, if he goes 5+ innings or if he goes over the 60 or so pitch mark I think that signals we will see Cody Carroll Sunday at FAU. At the same time considering we have Ole Miss (RPI of 5), UL Lafayette X2 (134), Ole Miss again (5) the next 3 midweek series I could see him staying put there as well....just my thoughts/opinions on the matter

Our SOS is already so bad that facing a 6-12 team isn't going to cause much of an effect. If we were in the 25-30 range, we would probably tumble several spots.

Southern starting Jacob Snyder. 10.08 ERA/1.96 WHIP. He is a lefty, though.

They’ve been throwing righties since the 2nd. They pulled their lefty starter after the 1st.

We might want to consider throwing a guy for more than an inning the way this one is going. I know we have like 20 pitchers but we don’t want to have the decision of scraping the bottom of the barrel in the eighth or ninth trying to avoid another bad loss vs throwing a meaningful pitcher.
