Universities are historically bloated. Cut administrators, not student focused opportunities.

Sure, the universities don't need anyone to run them. Leave it all up to the faculty who are never into their own self-interests.

I am all ears as to why a University needs, for instance:

This is EMU's Athletic Department, which is supposedly employed in support of student athletes and athletics. Are we saying there isn't $750k in staff salary there that could be cut? To save sports? I know, who am I kidding.

And one can do the above exercise on every department at every university in the country. It's just that in non-revenue athletics it seems the only people that lose are the athletes.

RE: EMU DROPPING 4 SPORTS
Good point, but of part of taking out 2 sports is reducing admin staff support as well. Maybe they can easily save over $1m. I just do not see how they go forward in the declining enrollment environment without giving up a sport or two. Totally agree with you on the Admin side of things, but the bloat is even bigger on the Academic side. Student population is down 20% and I am willing to bet total admin cost has risen in that same timeframe.

There is room to cut.

Or the piece of sh*t Illinois politicians could do a better job for their constituency, that would be a pretty snazzy alternative.

+1

Timely comment on Election Day.

Sad to see them eliminate women's wrestling.
