Right now, the focus is on revenue generation and all things fundraising for NIU! I cannot overstate the significant need we have right now for our fans, friends and all Huskies to support our student-athletes. Whether that's through purchasing season tickets, attending the Victor E. Ball or supporting the VEB online auction, making a donation to your favorite Huskie team through the Huskie Athletic Fund, or contributing to one of our Campaign to Sustain initiatives, now is the time.
It's not about our coaches, it's not about our administrators, it's about the NIU Huskies and providing the best possible experience for these very deserving 400 young people so that we can sustain and maintain NIU's great athletics tradition. The budget struggle is REAL. Some of you might be tired of hearing about our budget challenges. We apologize, but feel it is important to be transparent with this issue we deal with every day. Over the last three years, we have had to cut more than $2.7 million out of athletics' operating budget. That's due to many factors beyond our direct control on both the state and institutional sides. We are preparing for another round of significant cuts for 2018-19 that will undoubtedly impact our operation, making it more important than ever to bring in revenue. On the bright side, these cuts have made us extremely appreciative of our success both academically and athletically, and of those who have contributed to the cause to date.

Did he ever do a study as to why people are cancelling their season tickets and/or reducing donations?

Yeah I know...But I really believe his hands are tied because of the awful financial situation.
If $$ wasn't an issue, MM is gone. Maybe even last year.
Maybe I'm ...but that's the way I see it.

There are many factors that NIU can control. How about NIU declining attendance. Every student is required to pay a fee of approximately $500 per year to fund NIU athletic program. For every one thousand students we have lost per year we lose $500,000 in the athletic department. NIU enrollment peaked at 25,313 in the fall 2006 and then decline to 18,042 students in the fall of 2017. The bean counters here can figure out how many millions we have lost in the last 11 years because of declining enrollment. U of I and ISU can figure out how to maintain or increase their student enrollment but we keep going down.

This is a great point. It is easy to toss athletics under the bus but many of the challenges are a byproduct of the schools inability to stabilize enrollment. As you mentioned U of I, UIC, and ISU are all weathering the storm. Even Eastern Illinois is forecasting a significant increase in freshmen enrollment for next year and has seen a large increase in applications this spring. To his credit, Frazier has done a decent job of trying to plug holes and locate new revenues sources. Despite the efforts, the schools really needs to figure out how to stabilize its enrollment and grow. If the school can ever reverese course then athletics should be well positioned for better days.
There is a link to the meeting minutes for the fan advisory board meetings in the latest message. There are some interesting things mentioned. High level, all the issues that are constantly discussed on this board have been surfaced but there is only so much that can be done with the current hand that has been dealt.

Show a genuine interest in your fans before just asking for money.
I really hate the " we need you but we really don't care about you" attitude.

This is true. There is so much that can be done, but number one is to engage the donors and make them feel appreciated and part of the family.

U R correct, sir! So sick hearing the "blame the budget" crap. Money should have been coming in after the Orange Bowl in one form or another.
And when you sign games with FSU for $1.6 million that should cover 1/2 the damage? All a bunch of BS excuses.

Throwing money at the program and getting zero in return is what's known as a donation. That's something any successful program needs.

Thank you "its the sauce" for nailing it.
I do respect that everyone is entitled to their own financial decisions but I am stunned by some of the "long-time" supporters on this board who are talking about not renewing.
I don't like the scheduling lately either but I consider Season Tickets part of my donation and support of the Student/Athletes.
Some feel withdrawing financial support will get attention and that will change scheduling and whatever else they don't feel they are getting. Unfortunately, this is not some consumer product or restaurant that hasn't met your expectations. It doesn't work that way.
Our support of the Student Athletes is needed NOW more than ever.
Go Huskies!

As I mentioned above in respecting others decisions.
I look at it as "support through thick and thin" rather than "throwing money at it".
As far as the "quality" you mention. We do have "Quality" when you remember to look at our Graduation and Grade Point stats. And look around at some of the scandals and investigations going on at other institutions.

Rule of thumb for true fans: Throw your grenades at any non-performing AD, coach, specific NIU admin or Illinois politicians, not the football program, basketball program or the NIU brand. The latter 3 are more important, innocent, and unable to listen anyway.
A simple, well-conceived letter or email to Monty, Frazier, the NIU President or the Governor is WAY more effective than not renewing season tickets or donations as a mostly inaudible "protest" that will only damage NIU further.

So many on here once again need to be reminded of the definition of 'donation' and really think about why they donate (I do it for the students and what I think NIU does to prepare them for great careers in athletics and non-athletics). If you want to not buy tickets, OK, hope you feel better about yourself. This isn't professional athletics folks, this isn't some gigantic chain where you boycott to hurt their stock price. You can easily find where all the money goes for NIU athletics. The constant 'what's in it for me' or 'someone wouldn't talk to me' is annoying cry baby junk. Get over it. Perfectly fine/good to disagree with the strategies, suggest new ones, etc, but the 'what's in it for me?' is just awful.
I agree with others on here, I don't think that was any sort of strong vote of confidence on Monty, seemed to be more of "well...his players at least get good grades! can't do anything about it right now". Next year would seem to be 18 wins or gone, if I had to guess.
