To AAC schools...with this new alliance do not schedule the NC 4 schools OOC anymore. You'll find out soon enough who all the refs pay homage to.

Dude, we (ECU fans) already know that.

Of course if you just beat their asses straight up it kind of helps negate some of the piss poor officiating going against you a little bit.

AAC's new tv contract is near, pretty sure ESPN has something to do with this agreement.

ESPN+ going to be significant for the AAC in the next contract.

The AAC officiating has been bush league since its inception. Glad to hear about this.

I could definitely see us using it for the non-revenue sports. It does make sense for MWC football. You can pretty much televise games whenever you want, rather than continuing to get stuck in the 2am timeslots.

Be careful what you wish for. Sun Belt began partnering with the SEC on officials a couple years ago. Somehow the officiating has gotten worse since. Basically the SEC chose to give us all the refs that had applied to work for the league, and used us to give them experience. The problem is every official on earth wants to work the SEC, so we've gotten guys with basically no D1 collegiate experience thrown together in haphazard crews calling games.

The only advantage I've found is that we were able to use the SEC's replay system, so reviews were done by the league office in Birmingham in game, so at least some awful decisions were able to be overturned on review.

Maybe the ACC will treat you better, but my experience in these alliances is that you guys will get the scrubs and trainees calling games that the ACC doesn't want. And if its one of those weeks where the ACC has 10-12 home games...Bless your souls.

So how did this work in terms of the existing Sun Belt refs? Were they just fired? Did the better ones move to SEC games? Just trying to work out the nuts and bolts of how two leagues with a total of (example) 100 referees ends up being 50 good refs and 50 trainees.

Yep. And there's way too much on the line in these conference games to have subpar officials. We had games in both divisions this year where a single play could have swayed the division champion. There were just way too many "letters of apology from the conference" to conference schools the past few years. A change was certainly needed.
