RE: Too Soon '19 Predictions
Think we will be similar honestly, we will compete, finish at 4 or higher, likely flame out and go home in the conference tournament. Hopefully we will at least be good enough to get into the NIT this coming season

Thinking the order changes, but the top 6 will stay the same.

If Elmore is back, i think Marshalk runs away with the conference, with ODU right behind us, and a crap shoot for everyone else.

Our big weaknesses this season were depth, and rebounding. Neither of those will be a weakness next season. Imagine our team that was winning games being -7+ on the boards, now being +5 or so, and no drop off to subs.

I doubt you guys run away with the conference. I would definitely favor you guys but it's a lot harder when you have a target on your back all season.

Agreed. Shoot for top 4 and then surge in the tourney. But everyone will lose some games. And it’s always competitive. Plus those damn flu epidemics

6. ODU (we still need a grad transfer if we want to move up)
7. LT

??? Way too negative for ODU. UAB loses Lee and Cokley. MT loses Giddy, King and Kermit. WKU graduates a ton (I'm sure Stans can reload but they won't have Johnson as their leader. Huge shoes to replace there). Marshall will be good, especially if Elmore returns. I expect Burks to tear it up in his senior year.

I think Randy and Brandan are pretty huge holes to fill. The list I have makes the assumption that we don't get another addition. The fanbase seems to think we are a lock for a grad transfer who can contribute, and if that's the case then I'll move us up. In the meantime, with the current roster and how little experience our freshmen have, and how shallow we are in the backcourt, I don't see us much higher than .500. As of right now it's a 3 man team with Caver, BJ, and Porter, and I hope all of them become more consistent than they were last year.

Frontcourt? I think we're looking pretty set with guards. We can always go four small + Porter. I think we'll be in play again next year at the top of the league. But third or fourth in the league again won't be received well.

Marshall at top
WKU,UTSA,ODU following behind

Yeah, thin frontcourt. We will be relying on freshmen and AC if we don't get a transfer. And hopefully Porter works on his mouth.

Too Soon '19 Predictions
I guess I’ll have to be the first to mention my boys at Rice (‘look at me!’). We’ve got some young talent coming in.
Not only will we finish in the top half (7th or tied for 7th), but I even guarantee it!
(If I’m wrong, first one to call me on it in this thread ((when/if if becomes certain)) gets an overpriced fountain soda at Frisco next year during your team’s first game in the tourney.)

RE: Too Soon '19 Predictions
1) Marshall
2) ODU

Those would be my picks at this point. ODU returns -
1st Team All CUSA - Caver
3rd Team All CUSA - BJ Stith

All of this is predicated upon a few things happening
-
Porter returns for his senior season.

Godwin & Hueitt get plenty of playing time as sophomores - they are ODU's best perimeter shooters.

Jeff recruits a transfer to play inside along with Porter.

The incoming freshmen forwards are good enough to get at least some minutes each game.

As for Marshall finishing first .... it is predicated upon Elmore and Peneva returning, and them obtaining one or two additional big men that can defend and rebound inside, otherwise ODU will beat them at least twice again next season the same way they did it this season. It might even be easier for ODU to do so next season if they don't.

We beat Marshall twice. I'm not penciling them in for #1.

RE: Too Soon '19 Predictions
No matter how good everyone is next season, if everyone craps the bed in Pre conference it won’t matter and 1 bid is all we get. Problem has been that it takes too long for our teams to gel and everyone has sucked early, that could change next year..... need early respect to ride on.

WKU will be young in the low post, really curious what we get to replace Colby and Johnson.

A dangerous team for sure. I was sweating hard when we played in Hattiesburg this year. Your team is fast but small and need to be shooting well to win against better teams. I'd peg USM 6-7 right now but it's a long ways away.

Exactly! I went through the first page thinking football as it is ridiculously too early to talk round ball.

Well in that case if we are talking football ‘19 then it’s
1. Rice
2. Charlotte
3. LATech
4. TxState

I don't think anyone is sleeping on Doc and company. I think USM takes another jump next year but I think you are still 2 years away from playing like you did under Eustachy. Most of the depth will be taken care of next year, but then those players will have to get experience under them.
