True but I'm talking in terms of fan bases, attendance, prestige, etc.

As far as fan base/attendance, AAC has the inherent advantage of bigger schools in huge metro areas and also warmer climates.
Comparison:
UCF 2017 season - avg att: 36,000 *66,000 students in Metro area over 2 million
WMU 2016 season - avg att: 23,800 *20,000 students in metro area of 340,000

True but UCF plays much more favorable opponents, in 2016 when WMU went undefeated, we were consistently blowing out other MAC teams, nobody wants to watch us beat Ball St by 50 points that's not exciting, people would much rather show up and watch us play more favorable schools, not saying that we necessarily deserve it, just saying. Just look at the WMU fanbase attendance for the cotton bowl

MAC women basketball were #7 in RPI, AAC was #8. In the tournament, Buffalo hammered South Florida in a head to head. Both leagues finished 4-2 in the NCAA tourney.

AAC is a hard conference to get excited about for this reason.

Its the place where you land when you are shut out of a P5 conference.

They really need those Texas and Oklahoma schools badly to regain stature as a national player.

They should have had them before of course but politics came into play.

You can also say MAC>AAC wrestling when the AAC doesn't have wrestling.
