Good tips on how to get fans to the games from Loyola
Loyola guard Marques Townes has passed out flyers with teammates in campus dorms, encouraging his fellow students to come watch them play. Coach Porter Moser has spoken at freshman orientations throughout his seven seasons, hoping to make an impression that turns new students into fans.

Moser and his Ramblers have even stood in the student center next to Gentile Arena and handed out hot dogs as a marketing gimmick.

The difference is that Loyola plays good basketball and wins. That's what it takes. Plus, the school is in a big city where there are a lot of fans to draw from.

He has? As a student I've seen the Women's volleyball, soccer and softball teams promote along with the wrestlers, but I've never actually seen any attempt from baseball nor football. The men's soccer team even held a fifa night at new hall where students got to challenge the athletes in Fifa 18. Even mens tennis had free pizza for students at their matches in the Field house this semester.

Monty and the boys have a many dinners at the frat houses, played sand volleyball with students and handed out extra tickets just off of the top of my head.

NIU Convocation Center is just that. A venue for sports/track/concerts and whatever else. Loyola plays in a 4,500 seat basketball facility right in the middle of campus. Even when the weren't winning I thought that was a great looking small venue.

And don't forget, NIU is a football school 1st. Don't let that bottom 10 ranking fool you. And don't forget, as many love to point out, EMU fudges those numbers!01-lauramac2

NIU averaged 1469 a game (or 1/2 of the MAC average of 2901) in 2016. Loyola averaged 1831.

They are right in the middle of campus and have an exciting team, but they couldn't sell out until the last game of the year. We'll see how DePaul draws with their new on-campus facility next year.

DePaul just started playing in a new WinTrust Arena by McCormick Place this year. I think they were disappointed in their attendance.

I don't get the location. They must have shuttles I guess from campus. Not sure where the el stops there.

But I also think they would get some work crowd and moreover the local yuppies. But I hardly think people, young urban professionals are looking at a sub .500 team as vying for their buck in that area.

I actually wanted to go see a game vs a highly ranked team, like a Xavier or Nova but found no one to go. Tickets weren't that much but area parking seemed to be $20+ with a walk. I will say the location is probably visitor friendly.

Chicago is, will always be B10 and ND town 1st. No one else more than a blip in the sports coverage unless they are winning big. It even took a NCAA bid for Loyola to get recognition. And a lot of that was due to no other IL team going dancing.

I went to a game against St John’s. There couldn’t have been 400 people there.

Beautiful arena and setup. Park in a garage. Walk indoors on an overpass to the arena. Not one step outside.

My son tells me that there is a huge call for the firing of DePaul's AD and head basketball coach and that the DePaul alumni association took out a double page ad saying that. The Alumni are ticked & boycotting games.

I would happily rally around sister shelly....with pitchforks & fiery torches. And maybe a plank she could walk.
