Anyone thing he'd "lead the world"* in blocks if he played man to man defense? I think Timmy was perfect for the zone defense.
* That's a bit of hyperbole.

We will never know.....but I do know this: watching Duke give up uncontested 3 point shots to lose to Kansas at the end of the game is why Coach K said he preferred man to man over zone but didn't feel he had the personnel to play it (he had too many bigs on the floor plus Allen can't guard his shadow).

Their 2-3 zone was a far cry from Cuse's (or ours). His wings were too slow in getting to the corner to contest those threes, and they didn't rotate fast enough at the top. You can tell that he obviously didn't recruit the type of players to run it, and he was probably best served trying his luck with MTM, especially against Kansas.
It reminded me of Murphy's failed experiment of putting Thompson at the wing of the zone. You need guys like Bond and Minnie, or Brissett and Dolezaj in Cuse's case, that are fast/athletic enough to cover the ground, and long enough to alter the shots.
Syracuse made the Sweet 16, and took Duke to the wire, by running the zone effectively. It is what makes Boeheim a coaching legend and a future hall of famer. That he got a team with 3 consistent offensive players that far in the tournament is quite a feat.
EDIT (slightly O/T): Still waiting on that post you were going to give us on why EMU was "far from" the best defensive team in the conference, despite numbers pointing to the contrary.

Disagree! UMBC will go down in NCAA tournament lore and those kids and coach Odom will never have to buy a drink in Baltimore for the rest of their lives, while Tim Bond, unfortunately will continue to be unknown by everyone except a handful of people who follow EMU basketball.
