I don't believe it's just "anybody's guess" any more, and I also don't think Baylor is still the favorite. Every media person around the Memphis program, plus peeps I know who actually have some connection to Harris, all say it's now Harris to Memphis.

Pretty hard to ignore at this point. You can't keep a secret that big in Memphis.

Could it change? Yeah sure. No guarantees in recruiting, ever. Fluid and all that. Will it? Probably not.

Oh, and UTk and Wichita have zero chance. It's Memphis or Baylor.

Do you think that is why Crabtree stayed at Tulane?

IDK, but it certainly makes sense. Crabtree had stopped his recruiting and said it would be Tulane or Memphis. Then as soon as word started leaking out that Harris might stay home at Memphis, CC says it will be Tulane, "unless another D1 program gets involved." LOL

IDK if Penny backed out, or CC did, but Tulane gets to keep a really good player who can light it up from outside. That's a good thing for the AAC.

Probably right but Tyler Harris has milked this for all it's worth. I like his game and want him to be a Tiger but nothing would surprise me at this point.

JMO, but I think you are reading something into this that I don't see. Tyler has "milked this for all it's worth?"

No, he was never going to play for Tubby, so he had to pick another suitor (Baylor). And those are the only 2 teams he has seriously considered.

And he wasn't going to do anything until Tubby was fired and his replacement hired, and until he saw what was up with Lomax.

Beyond that, he has a conflict within his own family. His dad still wants him to play at Baylor, b/c he thinks he will see more PT. But his mom wants him to stay home, and that's where Tyler has said he prefers. He just wasn't going to do it with Tubby here.

Just not sure how that translates into Harris milking this for all it's worth.

I also think Crabtree backing off (or Penny backing off) was directly related to Harris deciding for Memphis, if that is indeed how it plays out. I know practically everybody at Memphis who has any recruiting ties at all is now saying Harris to Memphis on Friday.

Just my opinion 3T, but it's just grown old to me waiting for him to decide when as a local kid knows what he could mean to Memphis Tiger basketball. I get he may have felt overlooked by Tubby early on, but not so Penny. I'm just ready for him to decide, he either wants to play here or he doesn't. That's it. Just one opinion. We could have moved on to other targets if he is out. I hope he is in as I've said.

We will play 4 guards this year. Harris, ALo, Martin and Brewton will rotate. Next season could likely start both Harris and ALo for the following 3 years.

Martin starts at the 2, for sure. He was never a PG. The ball sticks with him and never leaves until he shoots it.

The starting PG is a mystery right now. I would say maybe Brewton for Game 1, but ALo will take over quickly.

Then Brewton and Harris will get plenty of backup minutes.

But all 4 will be in the rotation.

I was thinking that combo of ALo and Harris, but seems like size would be an issue if playing against any big guards. I know ALo is under 6 ft, and Harris looks even shorter in all the pics I’ve seen.

Harris is short, about 5'8"

I think that's right. And ALo is about 5'10".

I don't see many instances where both would be on the floor together, but who knows? ALo is more of a typical PG, and Harris is much more of a scorer. But defensively, that would be an issue, for sure.

Jayden can play some guard, as well as Brewton and Martin, so we'll be fine.

Penny said he still wanted a big and a stretch 4 for 2018, but I have no idea where they would be coming from, unless Wiseman reclassifies.

Our best shot at bigs comes for 2019, with Wiseman, Dandridge and C. Lawson, all of whom played for Penny.

I know they can still recruit a kid that has verbally committed, but I’m not 100% clear on after the NLI is signed. At that point it becomes tampering, correct? I’m not saying Penny is doing that, just trying to get that info. We’re in a similar situation, except we need guards while you need bigs. Dammit ALo. 03-lmfao

The 3 I mentioned are all Class of 2019 (unless Wiseman reclassifies to 2018, which nobody really knows yet), all are uncommitted, and all cannot sign until November of this year.

So those 3 are fair game.

And DJ Jeffries is also fair game. Again, Class of 2019. He is verbally committed to UK, but also can't sign until November.

Until they sign, they all are fair game. After they sign an NLI (and assuming they don't just sign funding papers), THEN it might be called tampering, but that's a rule that is hard to prove and rarely enforced. And many coaches still do it. Calipari is a master at it.

Lomax was just a special case, b/c he has been coached by Penny since elementary school, and lived with him a good bit. In his case, it was NOT tampering, b/c Penny had a prior established relationship with Lomax that far preceded his signing with Wichita.

Like I said, I didn’t think Penny was tampering, specially not in the ALo situation. I just wasn’t sure at what point “recruiting” became “tampering”. I know verbal commits mean basically nothing outside of how many stars the “services” give you based at least partly on where you commit.

And there ya go, Tyler Harris to Memphis. We're gonna have one helluva backcourt this coming season.

Jeremiah Martin, Kareem Brewton, Alex Lomax and Tyler Harris (who is #66 overall on 247).

Lots of firepower for Memphis. They may be extremely good sooner than many expected if they can defend at all.

Lomax can play some D. I just don't see us putting both short guards out on the floor together that much. More like a platoon system.

Harris is why we backed off on Crabtree.

Now Penny says he needs one big and maybe a stretch 4 for 2018.
