As someone else posted a few days ago, “it’s hard to be the man who follows The Man.” Mick did a fantastic job on the rebuild, and has had a fair run since, but the typical longtime fan has the gnawing sense that we’ve been to bigger heights before, why not try again. Sticking with Mick equals settling for also-ran status.

It is Mick's job to chart the team's deflections.

It is Billy Bearcat's job to chart Mick's deflections.

I finally listened to this video and now I am convinced Mick has to go, no way about it. What a bunch of chicken sh*t. I guess next time I screw up project at work, I can just tell my boss or the customer that it doesn't matter because my friend is sick! Terrible message and attitude. Then he says "winning is just for recruiting", no sh*t Mick.

What do you want him to say after a game like yesterday. He is hurt and shocked like the rest of us. Almost nothing he would say is going to make the fan base happy.

He could say "I am resigning Monday."
That would do it!

The post game press conference is a lot different. Honestly, we should be really proud of Kyle Washington. What a great representative for the University of Cincinnati.

He took X to the Elite 8 and he took Ohio State to an Elite 8, Final 4, and National Championship game! Yeah he really is a terrible coach!

A healthy Thad Matta recruits, and coaches circles around Mick. A Thad Matta with back problems who uses a desk chair to conduct practice is awful. After a year away from the game...I am not sure which one you will get.

RE: Mick post game
I feel for Mick, with all this death surrounding him, he can't even call himself a "Champion of Life."

Not unlike many Cincinnati heroes before him (Pete Rose, Bob Huggins, Harry Black - why would you hire anybody from the cess pool known as Baltimore????, etc.), Mick is his own worst enemy, and most likely, he's never going to change. Is it a Napolean complex? Is it his arrogance? Is he self-compensating about his divorce? Is it because he is so thin skinned? Etc. I'm not a psychiatrist, only a basketball fan. It's hard to pull for a guy who seems so out of touch; bush league move to bring up illness after a loss instead of after the Georgia State win.

Unlike other fans, I'm not going to quit. I've been down this road of disappointment before, and probably will be a traveler on it again.

But like one poster said before, I won't jump off the UC bandwagon and root for an established team. That's too easy. The Sugar Bowl year was the greatest 16 week stretch of my life, and will cherish that for the rest of my life.

p.s. I can't believe all the grief I took when I said this team was overrated, the metrics didn't pass the smell test, I didn't like Mick's side line rants and preferred he would coach, etc. Of course, most of those critics have quit on the Cats, so I guess it was worth it in the end.

Not that I believe Mick will be canned in the ensuing weeks, but even If was Matta would not come here due to his feelings about this university that goes back to his year's at XU.

Marcuscan and I both called it early. I kept silent for most of the season, because I didn't want to burst the bubble of those who wanted to believe. Does anyone have a cogent argument to make that next year will be better? Or are we just going to load the board up with more posts whining and bitching about how UK, OSU, U of L, and even little 'ol Xavier are a bunch of big, nasty cheaters who don't do things "the right way," like Mick?

Yep, that’s who this program is. Good not great. Done on the first weekend, not the second, or God forbid, the third.

RE: Mick post game
I will start by say that I'm disappointed in the way we loss. However I put more blame on the players than coaches they started to take bad shots and stopped going the rim. With that being said I don't care about the sweet 16, elite 8, or final four the only thing that matters is championships all the above games mean is you still have a chance for the title. Its no different than the Bengals making the playoffs and not winning a game. So my question to everyone is this if they would have won the game then loss in the next round would that have meant that it was a great season. I understand the frustration I have been a Cincinnati sports fan as long as I can remember and will always be. I'm proud of the kids that play for and represent my team and city. GO BEARCATS

The guy had major success at both X and OSU. Still, you've got to have the fire, and nothing dampens the fire like chronic illness. He's not that old, but I wouldn't want to hire him unless I were certain that he was over his back problems, and back problems usually don't work that way.

Next year is going to be a struggle, which is one of the reason's why this result is so disheartening. We will lose Gary, Kyle and likely Jacob Evans. Our frontcourt will consist of Trevon Scott, Nysier Brooks, Eli and Mamadou.... that front court will struggle to score. The team will likely mirror the 2012 team where SK did all the scoring and had guys like Titus Rubles, Mbodj, Justin Jackson, Shaq Thomas, etc. contributing 4-5 points a game.

That team finished 22-12 btw.

1. Who recruited those players?
2. If the coaches weren't following game plan, then it is up to the coach to coach a time out and tell the team the next guy to jack up a three is sitting on the bench.
3. If the coach tells the players not to jack up threes and to take the ball to the hole and they don't listen, it shows the players have no respect for the coach.
4. While I generally agree that you play to win championships, getting to the second week of the tournament was vitally important for this program given its history the past 15 years or so. Every one has been discussing this, even the players (Clark, Washington, Evans) who have publically stated that their goals for the season were to win the conference, win the conference tournament and go deep in the tournament due to past failures.
