Curry was making $350,000 this year, but I see that increasing significantly with how we've been investing in athletics.

Probably for similar reasons as to why a hot name came to thefaU to coach a perennial 3-9 football program.

Florida Atlantic football went to a bowl game and won it in their 2nd and 3rd year of being in FBS. They also have great football facilities , weather advantages and obvious recruiting advantages for the sport

Basketball has always sucked. High schools have better facilities. The fans don't care. No recruiting advantage or weather cuz it's indoors

So yeah WAY different circumstances

It was actually our 3rd and 4th year in FBS. And those two years were our only winning seasons before this year. We'd actually been to the same # of postseasons in basketball as we had in football prior to this season. So I really wouldn't tout our football record as superior to basketball. We also only had 10k overall for football attendance in 2016. I think that's more telling than our basketball attendance for fan support before this year. Besides the superior football facilities, the state of each program were in very similar circumstances; do you honestly think if we'd hired someone other than Kiffin that we'd had the same sort of resurgence that we did? I highly doubt it. It's much easier to have the same turnaround with a great hire in basketball. We've been investing more in athletics and could possibly make this a reality.

"Basketball has always sucked." Well, so has football. So yeah, VERY similar.

I thought that they weren't full time fbs until 2005 but maybe I missed it by a year. Point stil stands

There were glimpses of potential and advantages. None of which we have in basketball

I do think we have the potential to be more competitive in basketball, depending on who White hires -- especially with Dr. Kelly's vision for athletics.

I would not say that, though basketball is not as popular as football in 2010
when we had that NIT season and won the Belt we packed our arena most of that season. Also as for facilities the new one being built now will be used for all sports. That should help.
You can talk all you want about that stuff, but making 350,000k a year in a state with no income taxes while living in Boca to coach a program with little expectations and a president who is all about athletics will attract alot of coaches.

There was one huge difference - FAU Football did have quite a bit of talent that had been badly mismanaged (but well recruited) before Kiffen got there. FAU basketball has much less talent.

True. I think it would've been difficult for Kiffin to accurately gauge the depth of our roster, though, only based on our on-field performance because we sustained so many injuries in 2016. So I'm not sure how much it actually played a role in him accepting the position. However, it probably looked better than basketball with how many starters are graduating this year. While we obviously don't have the same level of talent in basketball as we did football, we could still make a great hire to improve recruiting and, hopefully, the overall program. And we're willing to invest in athletics which is very attractive to potential candidates. I think Kiffin realized this and greatly influenced his decision. Kelly is truly building something great at Florida Atlantic.

There is always hope that Kiffin's rep may cross into basketball and good recruits might take a gander at our school simply because it is, suddenly, a more fashionable place than just two years ago?

I think he definitely raises the profile of our overall athletic programs. Along with, hopefully, making a great basketball head coach hire & the ongoing construction of our new athletic complex that players will be able to use, we're definitely building a more fashionable place to play basketball.
