I was talking about the buyout he is getting from Memphis for firing him before his contract is up. Could be a bunch of cash that would offset what a school like us could pay him.

Don't know if there is anything to it, but I've heard that High Point will make a run at hiring their alum, Smith. High Point seems to have plenty of money to spread around.

They forgot the SBC in general. Also left out Isiah Thomas who coached then-Belt member FIU 2009-12 and went 26-65 in 3 seasons.

But their basic premise is correct: pro players turned pro coaches more often than not have not made good college coaches.

Isaiah is first one listed under former coaches.

I honestly have no clue what makes someone a great coach. Obviously, having been a great player is not a requirement.

I think there is one prominent D1 coach (Buzz Williams maybe?) who never played college basketball.
