Trump administration sanctions Russian spies, trolls over U.S. election interference
The Trump administration on Thursday imposed fresh financial sanctions on Russian government hackers and spy agencies to punish Moscow for interfering in the 2016 presidential election, and for a cyberattack against Ukraine and other countries last year that officials have characterized as “the most destructive and costly” in history.

Sanctions also were imposed on individuals known as “trolls” and the Russian organizations that supported their efforts to undermine the election. Additionally, the administration alerted the public that Russia is targeting the U.S. energy grid with computer malware that could sabotage the systems.

I don't believe he has and I am happy that he hasn't.

Our foreign policy shouldn't be driven by internal partisan politics and media witch hunts.

You're joking right? You think those sanctions that were almost unanimously approved by our elected representatives in congress were partisan and/or driven by the media?

Trump must now decide whether to sign a measure that allows Congress to block any attempt to ease or end penalties against Vladimir Putin's government and imposes new sanctions in response to a Russian electoral disruption campaign that the president continues to dispute.

The House passed the sanctions package on Tuesday in an overwhelming 419-3 vote

Yes.

You have to buy the Russian election meddling line to believe it to be anything but political.

I would like to see the US and Russia have closer relations.

Not with Putin in charge since he was an ex KGB officer. Look how many opposition leaders he jailed or have murdered the past few years? Too many to count. Putin could send one of his flunkies to the US and used one of those poisons on another opposition leader that is here under protection. That poison that was used also affected a police officers, and close to 100 people. We do not want that here in the US do we?

Having decent relations, which are in our interests, does not mean we accept any kind of junk like that nor does it mean we endorse him.

Closer and calmer relations are for our benefit, not his.
