ODU apparently doesn't like how things are set up right in CUSA. MTSU's AD has in the past indicated interest in something different.

Marshall would be part of what those schools want. Marshall has previously indicated playing in Florida is important.

So basically it seems CUSA East is fairly content with CUSA East.

Come 2021 CUSA East is 7 schools playing together for 8 years and can break and be their own league. It would seem likely that UAB would be on their invite list (8), maybe USM would be as well (9). I suspect there is at least one and probably four (if USM weren't invited or declined) Sun Belt schools that would join that conference if invited.

03-lmfao Rocket science or brain surgery?

I expect this is how things will play out, contingent on how the P5 behaves with their TV contracts that expire in the mid 2020's.

This is basically what I have been hoping for a long time now. Take those 9ish and then 3ish from the Sun Belt to make an even 12 or 14 and sign me up!

RE: CUSA Announced New TV deal
There's no actual need for a CCG except in conferences large enough (16 teams) where teams from different divisons don't play one another. Why should you have to beat the same team twice to be the champion? Of course the answer is ESPN. They need the additional programming/revenues in a very slow period. They sell conferences on some percieved value of additional exposure and toss in a few dollars (on the G5 level) as a bone to chew on. I'd much rather see an old school setup with a 9 team conference of say App, Charlotte, Coastal, Ga So, GA St, Marshall, MTSU, ODU & WKU. PLay a round robin football schedule (4 home & 4 away) with no CCG. Basketball has a 16 game conference schedule that allows you to schedule a few more money games or with schools close to you. Tournament sites in Atlanta, WS/Greensboro, and Nashville. Travel for oympic sports isn't crazy. Administrators aren't faced with budget being eaten up from travel, athletes aren't missing excessive class time, coaches have more time to prepare and fans can actually attend away games. I really have a hard time seeing a downside to this.

I guess ODU shouldn't have started football up again or just stayed FCS. This is part and parcel of joining a FBS conference.

BYU, Utah, AFA, Colorado State, and Wyoming would take offense at the suggestion schools should just accept the alignment of their conference.

Shoot AState has been a charter member of two conferences

Winning a CCG for a strong G5 is a resume booster to help get into the Access Bowl. That's why everyone does it. And like you said. Money.

Team A goes 5-3 wins East division and 6-6 overall. Team B goes 8-0 wins West and 11-1 overall. Team B beats team A in CCG. How does that build your resume?

Still gives team B another win over a +.500 school.

Also, what happens when 8-0 East team meets 7-1 or 8-0 West team. Both cracking the top 25 or receiving votes. If the 8-0 team wins it'll be a nice boost to land that Access Bowl slot if say 2 loss teams from the AAC and MWC are in contention.

You responded while I was updating my post. I hope to live long enough to see that day 2 teams from the SB crack the Top 25. Either way, beating a team you've likely already played, perhaps even lost to, isn't going to build your resume. The only way to do that is by beating teams from a perceived higher rated conference.

There's no downside to a CCG really. Even if an 8-0 team gets whipped by a 5-3 team. It'll give the 8-0 team a chance to earn more money from ticket sales.

I agree. People who use worst case scenarios to poke holes in championship games never have much of an argument in my opinion. This is an additional opportunity to host a post season game and if an 8-0 team is not getting up for that, they don’t deserve to go to an access bowl anyway. The way the SBC is doing it is perfect.

Playing 9 conference games sucks. Not having a full round-robin schedule sucks. The way to get around both of those is having the CCG. Plus, it has greatly increased our TV revenue share. I see no downside.

I believe those games have cost G5 programs NY6 or similar bowls in the past.

That said I'm all for a CCG.

If you don't play at a neutral site the probability of the 11-1 losing drops significantly.
