RE: 2018 Coaching Rumors/Openings
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't such a long contract abnormal? That seems like a really long extension to me.

Gotta wonder if that's a typo.

It also says '28-'29 on their website...

LONG extension, but base pay is only $301k. Probably a similar move to the Forbes deal where they upped the buyout along with the years.

They have done that with their last 2 hires (Miller and Mack).

Xavier has promoted longtime assistant Travis Steele to replace Chris Mack.

As has been mentioned on here Jason Shay has already been linked to the Western Carolina job. Also B.J. Mckie is being mentioned at USC-Upstate as a viable candidate. Think this could happen if B.J. wants it.
Former Forbes assistant Brian Collins is apparently interested in the Tennessee State job as well.

The Forbes coaching tree may be ready to bloom.

Fairly comprehensive article about WCU's hire of Mark Prosser at Mid-Major Madness. Though, if I were a WCU fan, I would be blushing at their AD's characterization of the hire as a "slam dunk." He probably has been waiting for years to use that one. Then again he may use it every time he announces a head coach hiring regardless of the sport.

https://www.midmajormadness.com/2018/3/2...conference

The Mark Prosser hire adds another head coach to the Mike Young coaching tree. He got his first coaching job as assistant to Mike Young for a year in 2002. He left for 5 years as an assistant at Bucknell, helping them to 3 Patriot League championships, 2 NCAA appearances and 2 first round tournament wins (over 3 seed Kansas and 8 seed Arkansas). Then returned to Wofford in 2008 to help them to back to back SoCon Championships and NCAA appearances in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011. Then a year as head man at DII Brevard and 6 years as associate head coach at Winthrop. http://www.soconsports.com/ViewArticle.d...EM_ID=4000

Former Young assistant and Dobyns-Bennet graduate Dustin Kerns became head coach at Presbyterian in May 2017 after 7 seasons with Young, 4 as associate head coach; Army head coach Jimmy Allen was Young’s assistant coach in 2002-2004; and Oklahoma State head coach Michael Boynton, Jr., was associate head coach for Young in 2007-2008.

RE: 2018 Coaching Rumors/Openings
And of course Mark Prosser is the son of the late Skip Prosser, who was at the helm at Wake when they (narrowly) beat us in the NCAAs in 2003(?) - and was very close to Eddie D.

Eddie D. and Skip Prosser I

Eddie D. and Skip Prosser II

I really can't believe it's been over 10 years since he passed. That's flabbergasting to me.

Also, FWIW.............Eddie D. finally got the Middies to a 20-win season this year (bartow would be proud!), their first since maybe 1999-2000.

And also BTW.........Prosser (Sr.) was HC at Xavier before Wake.

Looks like Joe Dooley is going to East Carolina... again. Presumably means he wasn't getting the Rhode Island job.

FGCU is another place someone can go win and build a resume. Lots of good landing spots for ambitious assistants open right now.

For only about 3 years. Chased about 15 jobs in that time and it says a lot that the only one to hire him was one that fired him 20 years ago. Of course says a lot about ECU that they were stupid enough to pay him about 6 times what they were then too. Pure money grab by Dooley. Did nothing with a good program in a bad league but ECU fans are supposed to buy that he’ll fix a bad program in a good league. Ok.

I’m really surprised that the Asheville position hasn’t been filled yet.

Not sure if that's a state employee thing or not. The position might have to stay open for a certain amount of time to receive applicants and conduct a formal interview process. McDevitt left three weeks ago, so if it has to be open for 30 days (which is about the standard), that puts the timeline for a hire around the middle of next week.

ECU is a place basketball coaches go to die. And Dooley wasn't that impressive his last stop at ECU.

Joe Dooley/ECU (CAA)
95-96 17-11 (9-9) 4th in the CAA
96-97 17-11 (9-7) Tied for 3rd in the CAA
97-98 10-17 (5-11) Tied for 7th in the CAA
98-99 13-14 (7-9) 7th in the CAA

He also never won a game in the CAA Tourney. In ECU basketball history they have never had a head coach leave ECU with a winning record.

And now Dooley has to play UConn, Cincy, Memphis each year instead of William and Mary, JMU and Hofstra. Yeah he just stole somewhere between 3.6 to 4.5 million from ECU.

Elizabethton native and Texas Assistant Mike Morrell is named the UNCA coach. I think this a good hire, I remember discussing Morrell as a possibility to fill the ETSU position when Bartow was fired.

Stupendous hire for them, and should work out well for him, too. One wonders if Forbes were to leave in the near-to-intermediate future....................? ('Course way too early to really wonder much.)

I would sure hate to lose McKie (or Shay, for that matter). He will be a great coach for somebody in the not-too-distant future.

Yes, either of them might be a good solid replacement for Forbes if he chooses to leave.

Just a nice article on McKie:

McKie talks about his college days at South Carolina
