Mid-Majors need to consolidate into the best possible conferences
Now more than ever Mid-Major conferences need to shed dead weight. Consolidate into the best versions of themselves. Enough of this crap about sticking together and have the whole conference improve. All mid-majors have dead weight at the bottom and that kills them when comparing them to a P5 school. So why not merge into the best conference possible. The A-10 could have been a 1 bid league if St. Bonnie didnt have its best season in years and Davidson didn't win the tournament. Imagine if the shed the bottom for the top teams in C-USA.

A-10 drops:
La Salle - Already talking about moving to the MAAC
Duquesne - hasn't made the NCAA since 1977 and 1 20-win season since 1980 (that is bad)
Fordham - hasn't made the NCAA since 1992 no 20 win seasons since 1991.

A-10 add:
Old Dominion - 2 NCAA bids in the last decade and 7 20+ win seasons
MTSU - 3 NCAA bids in the last decade and 6 20+ win seasons
WKU - 4 NCAA bids in last decade and 7 20+ win seasons

New A-10:
Dayton
VCU
ODU
WKU
Richmond
Davidson
MTSU
George Mason
George Washington
UMass
Rhode Island
St Louis
St Joes
St Bonnie

That is a great quality "Mid Major" conference.

No more sticking with losers like UTEP, Rice, Fordham, Duquesne and other just hoping they will be good one day. They just wont so time to move on and create the best possible conferences. Gonzaga is about to go to the Mountian West and Witchia St went to the AAC because their conferences are no getting any better. The G5 also needs to do the same with football.

The time is now to move on.

You can take the best of them and form 1 conference. But then one of those will become the doormat of that new conference, others will become the new so-so of that conference. And the selection committee will probably still give the conference one bid.

But it does allow for some left behind to start winning the auto-bids in the conferences left behind.

Hard to win this game.

Form a new FBS football only league. And yes that is allowed by the NCAA.

RE: Mid-Majors need to consolidate into the best possible conferences
If I could hand pick a G5 conference for football:

UCF
USF

Georgia Southern
Georgia State

App State
ECU

MT
Memphis

ODU
Marshall

UAB
Troy

USM
Arkansas State

I like that but be more realistic on teams. I could see something like this being a football only conference. But it will be hard to find basketball homes for some of these schools

ODU
JMU
UMass
WKU
Marshall
MTSU
App St
Ga Southern
Charlotte
Liberty

2017 football attendance
ODU - 20,118 (5-7)
UTEP - 19,548 (0-12)

2017-18 basketball attendance
ODU - 6,346 (25-7)
UTEP - 6,155 (11-20)

ODU averaged about 600 more in football and didn't have an 0-12 team and averaged about 200 more in basketball without having a 20 loss team.

If the records were reversed, UTEP would have closer to 30k in football and close to 10 in basketball. Who's the real loser?

Who is the real loser? UTEP cause they lost a lot more game. This is the biggest joke argument I have ever heard. You cannot be serious with this.

Ok, but you cannot call them losers if you barely draw more than them. They've had 1 bad year and ODU had superior results, but barely any fans. UTEP is no Rice or Fordham.

As much as it pains me cause I love me the MAC and cheese:

*Move Ball State to the Summit with MVC for FCS football
*Move Akron to OVC

Add Illinois State to the MAC
Add James Madison to the MAC

East
BGSU
Buffalo
Kent
Miami
Ohio
James Madison

West
CMU
EMU
NIU
Toledo
WMU
Illinois State

Not too bad, TBH. You could probably substitute Kent State for Akron or EMU for Ball State and James Madison for Delaware.

It's pretty compelling if UTEP has similar attendance with much worse teams.

Hmm...which one of those is not like the others? Madison would be better off trying to convince the eastern half of C-USA to split off with them and form a minor version of the ACC.

Old Donimion is. Thanks for proving it with stats showing an AWFUL school has the same attendence with another coming off a historically great season in both sports.

Historically great? No. And you guys do know that our football attendance is maxed out right? That said, UTEP has great fan support but we shouldn't be in a conference with them.

2017 football attendance
ODU - 20,118 (5-7)
UTEP - 19,548 (0-12)

2017-18 basketball attendance
ODU - 6,346 (25-7)
UTEP - 6,155 (11-20)

ODU averaged about 600 more in football and didn't have an 0-12 team and averaged about 200 more in basketball without having a 20 loss team.

If the records were reversed, UTEP would have closer to 30k in football and close to 10 in basketball. Who's the real loser?

Old Donimion is. Thanks for proving it with stats showing an AWFUL school has the same attendence with another coming off a historically great season in both sports.

Historically great? No. And you guys do know that our football attendance is maxed out right? That said, UTEP has great fan support but we shouldn't be in a conference with them.

Numbers are numbers. If there were so much demand for ODU football, wouldn't the school expand the stadium or something?

UTEP shouldn't be in a conference with ODU, but that doesn't mean they're "losers" like Fordham and Duquesne, especially when you barely out draw them,

Who is the real loser? UTEP cause they lost a lot more game. This is the biggest joke argument I have ever heard. You cannot be serious with this.

It's pretty compelling if UTEP has similar attendance with much worse teams.

Our stadium can't be expanded as is, we're building a new stadium but the initial capacity won't be much bigger than it currently is. I agree on UTEP.
