RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Not a good look. From Jaylin Walker. He posted the below comment on Twitter. In Joel’s defense he was probably stressed about our football team and how they can get 2 wins and average 5000 fans. Not sure Joel should interfere with our NUMBER 1 program
The A.D at Kent state is a hater ! He don’t want us to be great. What D1 college do they not allow there student Athletes to play music in there own gym ? ??♂️ That they put there blood sweat and tears in. Good thing I have one more year of this !!!

Tweet has since been deleted.
Either by order of the Athletic Department or the Grammar Department.
I would imagine playing “music” is fine. But I’d be willing to bet what they were playing doesn’t necessarily qualify as music. Just a hunch.

And that practice facility will be ready .... when?

You guys can play grammar police and music critics but the real concern here should be that our supposed best player sounds like he's counting the days til he is done playing. Hope he gets his head right before November.

The bigger picture is that I hope those players representing the university can put a correct sentence together. Putting the ball in the basket shouldn't be the criteria for a 4 year degree. Are these guys ( and not just Kent State) ushered in the back door or what? Despite the North Carolina players, for example, taking fake classes, it's still business as usual at that place.

Thank you FlashPan.
When I see a sentence like that posted PUBLICLY, it makes me wonder what value my degree has when the author of the sentence has the same degree.

It's hard to tell if someone is using bad English to make a point, especially younger people. I wouldn't read someone's tweet and decide if they don't speak proper English from it.
Sometimes, I will use incorrect English to emphasize a point, which usually is the use of "ain't".

Good lord. You guys are ridiculous. The slang and/or care that someone puts into a tweet doesn't have to signify his inability to use correct grammar. Depending on what he was playing and at what time of the day, it could be a problem. There are tons of people walking through the MAC Center on the daily. But if it wasn't laced with profanities and it wasn't blaring and disrupting to the other people working in the building, he should be fine. I can't take a side in this without more details.

To be honest, I am more worried about DP being ready for the season than critiquing grammar.

I’ve had “Kent read, Kent write, Kent State” thrown in my face for 20 years and I’m being ridiculous. Foh with that crap.
Sorry that as a donor, supporter and season ticket holder I expect a little more of our student-athletes. An expectation of the correct usage of their/there was way out of line. My apologies.

Ummm...normally, when you use a present tense verb like 'expect', you would stay in the present tense, so "An expectation of the correct usage of their/there is way out of line" would be better English.

Well then, if that’s the case, you should use the verb “is” because the subject is singular: “an expectation.”
Should we continue?
It should be "Shall we continue?"

Mmmm, I think it depends on intent: “should” is used to indicate advisability, but I get the point you’re making. I’m all about the modals! Since it’s my intent, I can say I was trying to ask if it were a good idea to continue this splendid threadjack.

It's "Void of news, basketball must be" in Yoda-lish.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Anyone who takes Kent read, Kent write, Kent State seriously should just shut it down. That wouldn't change if we were #1 on all published academic lists throughout the country. And for those of you who corrected his grammar, kudos. I cannot help my 6th grader with his English homework. Verbs, Adverbs, Pronouns, diagraming sentences, etc etc - They are all pretty needless to know IMO unless you are going to be a writer.
