RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Informative article by Allen Moff in today's Record Courier. Did not realize Pippen had knee surgery.
“Danny suffered a knee injury (during the offseason) that required surgery. He will be out for an extended period of time and won’t do much during the summer,” said Senderoff. “We’re hoping he’s back for the start of next season.”
Trying to find some optimism about this year's squad, but at the moment, I am not feeling it. I hope I am wrong.

Not surprised. Illinois is the other team I follow, and I knew they had a major need for a big man.

Once healthy, he will average about 7 min a game. Although I don't see the benefit, best of luck to him.

On the plus side, he would foul out a lot less.

That could be $90k. x3 opponents = $270k. The way it read made it sound unclear.

I think the $270K is a combined total for the three teams.

6-9 stretch 4 Evan Bainbridge from Stow verbally committed today.
"Evan Bainbridge – ’19 PF Stow-Munroe Falls: With size at 6’8 and a legit college ready skill as a pick-and-pop three point shooter, Bainbridge is a mid-major recruiting special who has seen his recruiting stock sky-rocket over the last few months. Currently reporting offers from Furman and Kent State, Bainbridge scored the ball with consistency for his Ohio Basketball Club team this weekend, mainly knocking down three point shots, but also showing the ability to put the ball on the floor once or twice as a prototypical new-age power forward with a skilled game. Bainbridge will have to add strength to make an impact around the basket at the next level, but his size and shooting ability have D1 coaches excited."

Nice. He got a shout out on twitter from LeBron for a dunk in a game a few months back I believe. I think he had a teammate that's a freshman at OU this year as well.

Good get for Kent. Very good jumper. Developing game getting to the bucket. High IQ and will work very hard to develop his game. Will need some pounds but similar game to Danny Pippen.
IMO he is exponentially better than his teammate that went to OU and has a very high ceiling for significant improvement.

Sounds like he can shoot it. Lord knows they always need players that can do that.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
ADLR update- this is from the Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette today. Questions remain as to when he will be available.
What De La Rosa will provide for Illinois regardless of if he's on the court — where he averaged 11.8 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds last season at Kent State — is a veteran presence. He's one of just four scholarship upperclassmen on a young Illini roster.
"He's a veteran," Underwood said. "He's a grown man. Here's a guy who's a proven rebounder and who's an extremely skilled guy. It's been fun having him around this summer just on the sideline because you can sense his IQ and his feel for the game. He picks things up very easily. Very mature guy that obviously has some size and skill that will help us."

Is he a walk on for this coming season? Looks like he's already played two years of juco and averaged 3 and 3 last year?

I am not sure. Been too busy to inquire. He certainly didn't have very appealing numbers. Maybe just a practice body.

I do not understand this recruit. Hope the coaches see something that his resume does not reveal. If someone knows something, please share it.

Well if he is for this year and a walk on then it makes sense. He's basically just an insurance policy since we're a little short on big men with AD gone and DP hurt.

We got 4 bigs on the roster now - Duling, Frederick, Pippen, and Whittington. At the minimum, we need another body out there. F Chris Johnson isn't even listed on the roster. I don't see that we have a scholarship for Givens, and I wouldn't expect him to get many minutes.

I would not count Duling as a 'big' ... Pippen is hurt, Frederick was No. 4 last year and Whittington is an unknown. Another 'big' even as a walkon probably doesn't hurt. And could easily get some minutes. ....
