I for one appreciate communicating with others that speak and/or write with correct English. Sorry. I expect anyone graduating from Kent State the same. If you publish on social media you need to take responsibility for what you write.

If he is not "far from the game" I hope he can help us with some in-roads into the Carolinas.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
MAC fan here trolling for off season hoops news with a comment on your Jaylin Walker drama. It's called "code switching" and is a common academic and social concept employed by many people in the US and around the world who have the capacity to speak in different dialects, languages and or pidgins. You switch to the form of the language most likely to resonate with your audience in that interaction. If Walker was to use term paper proper English to talk with his twitter friends it would not be as effective. thus, he code switches to a version of the language that better resonates. As long as he is using his Kent St University education to strengthen his ability to also effectively communicate in proper English when necessary there...ain't nuttin to see here.

If I was you guys I'd be more concerned by the subtext he clearly implies, if you put away your language police blinders, that there is a poor relationship between the AD's office and the basketball program and the top player in the program (a senior) feels that there is a pattern of disrespect at the school. Tough to have a good team when your good players don't feel fully invested in the program.

and, btw, your new football coach seems like a keeper.

6'3" SG transfer from New Mexico. Will sit out this year and have 1 year left. Two years ago was the nations leading scorer in JUCO. Last year averaged around 10 a game at N. Mexico.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
Anyone hear how the CJ Williamson, Antonio Williams, Anthony Roberts, & Deandre Gholston have looked in offseason workouts and practices? Are Troy Simons & Danny Pippen still rehabbing and recovering from injuries?

Are Kain Harris, Akiean Frederick, & Philip Whittington ready to be big contributors this season for KSU?

Starting 5: Avery, Walker, Peterson, Duling, Pippen?

Dante Jackson was name assistant coach on Sendy's staff on 04/13/18 and an assistant coach @ Xavier in July. That has to be the shortest stay of an assistant coach @ KSU that I can remember. (I totally understand that it is alma mater...)

With Pippen supposedly out at least until December ... Avery-Walker are the only two starters that seem assured.

It's been a long, long time since I have looked forwards less to a basketball season than this one. I see a really poor season coming.

Whenever I have felt that way in the past, and it has been quite a few times, Sendy has some how put together a team that ends up over achieving. I think we will be athletic, and quicker than in the past. I predict that Jalen Avery will run the team and be an all conference point guard. Jump on board, at least for now.

I’m expecting a big improvement in Duling. For someone at his age with his raw ability, gains can be dramatic with a strong off-season program.

I'm not an expert, but I'm not expecting too much from this season either. I was expecting a lot more going into last season, and was disappointed.

At forward, we replace De La Rosa with Whittington; Pippen, Duling, and Frederick return. Pippen is recovering from an injury. Frederick wasn't able to earn a lot of time last year. I don't see improvement here.

At guard, I think Avery will be one of the top point guards in the MAC. Last year, I expected Walker to make a big jump and become a 1st-team All MAC player, but I don't think he showed much improvement. Mitch Peterson is the only other returning guard. We only have 6 players back from last year.

The rest of the roster - Kain Harris, CJ Williamson, Antonio Williams, DeAndre Gholston, and Anthony Roberts - are all shooting guards. (OK - Verbal Commits calls CJ Williamson a point guard). Since we only have 3 or 4 healthy forwards, we might be playing with 4 guards on the floor a lot. Back in the 2016 MAC Championship year, we played 6'3" G Deon Edwin as power forward a lot - it worked because of Edwin's skills, but I don't think it's a good plan going into a season.

One of the new SGs might be a solid contributor - I'd think Harris might be the best bet - but none look like guaranteed successes. Gholston and Roberts might have good careers at KSU, but I wouldn't expect a lot of minutes as true freshmen.

So we need one of the forwards to take over De La Rosa's production, and another to contribute 8-10 points a game; we need Avery and Walker to improve; and we need one of the guards to come out of nowhere and replace Zabo's 13 ppg. And that would just get us back to 17-17. I don't see much hope that this season would be better than last season.

RE: Mens Basketball Offseason
I think the team will be about the same as we've been for the past several seasons. A lot of talent. A lot of new pieces. How well and how quickly they gel will determine how far we go. Pippen's injury is really unfortunate because I was expecting him to take a big step. While he still could, this has to be a set back in his off season work.

I like Frederick. He showed me some subtle things I think you could work with last year. He wasn't much of a hs recruit or a freshman in juco. Then he reinvented himself between his freshman and sophomore seasons. That shows he puts in the work. Time will tell if D1 is too big for him, but I have a hard time believing a guy that put up the numbers he put up can't play at this level. Also in an era of transferring like crazy, he stuck it out so he's an easy guy to root for in my mind.

I'm excited to see Whittington. If we had a sophomore post put up the numbers he put up we'd be pretty excited about him... I know this because he put up really similar numbers to whar did Pippen last year (other than threes).

I too expect big strides from Duling. The skill and potential he possesses is glaringly obvious every time he steps on the court.

I do like what I've seen on tape from a lot of the other new guys as well. I'm really excited to see Williams. From the clips on him, what he lacks in height he makes up for in length and athleticism. Nothing will get a gym as loud as a little guy postering a big guy. As for Gholston and Roberts I always like having two 4 year guards in the same class. I hope they both stick around even if they don't get the minutes they hope. My hope is that becomes the next guard duo to build around.

One concern, I believe Harris and Whittington will both be able to leave after this season if they want.

I don't know how good we'll be, but I'm confident we have talent and it will be interesting, and likely frustrating at times to watch it come together.
